Re: Rearsets
Well I thought it was about time I did something about these as they have been sitting on my workbench for six months now, and my tame stalker has encouraged me this very evening to get em done!! (seriously, how did you know? You got me looking over my shoulder!)
I have found a guy to weld up the parts, and Lloydie you will be pleased to know I have followed your advice and dispensed with my adapter plates and am having the plate which would normally bolt onto the frame welded to the VTR plates, still gives me sufficient adjustabiliy, I hope!
For the information of anyone looking for some fabrication work keep an eye on this thread and I will post up some pics of the finished items. The guy doing the work is caled Chris Sutcliffe, Metal Morphic, Unit 8a Richard Mill Industrial Estate, Hertford, SG13 7AE 07846-072632.
He used to work for Harris Racing back in the early 90's and had numerous bikes in the workhop when I went to see him in various stages of completion. He has a good knowledge of Jap customs as well as Brit and Yank stuff. He makes chain guards for Nortons from sheet metal and once they are finished they are a thing of beauty. He builds frames from scratch and can do most welding tasks. As I say I should be getting them back sometime next week so you should be able to see for yourself if he is any good.

Re: Rearsets
About time you got them rearsets on the bike. It's the one thing your bike is really missing.

Nice one kev, I must have missed this post when it started, but it looks like it will work'out well. And if your ex-Harris welder is as good as his old company used to be, the welds will be part of the attraction
Can't beat a cheap project mod, my Renthal bar project was the same,I didn't want to lash out on a fancy new top yoke, so £15 for a spare yoke off Jazz and £20 for some bar clamps intended for a quad bike and I have made my own. It's more rewarding when its your own design thoughts

Re: Rearsets
Absolutely mate. It's funny but I was reading in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics that Harris are re-making a lot of their old designs because of the upsurge in interest in older bikes which they made accessories for. Wonder if they will knock up some rearsets? It certainly wasn't on the cards when I phoned them last spring.

I fear that maybe the wrong terminology has been attributed the these items for 'bling' read 'crap' or 'shite' or 'cack', delete as you feel appropriate.Kev L wrote:Ahh, if only I had that deep seated sense of style!! looking forward to seeing the rearsets when there finished dude.......

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Re: Rearsets
I picked up the welded brackets the other day, pictuers to follow when I CBA. Anyway all looking good and just need a bit of tidying up and finishing off.
When I picked them up Chris asked whether there would be any interest in a cnc'd version of the brackets as he has a mate who would be able to do a run. I thought if they are made up with no holes drilled on the mounting points so you can mount your own choice of rearset, whether that's CBR or Tawain/Hong Kong specials.
Obviously the cost would depend on the number of folk interested, but I will endeavour to get a price and post up on here.
