set the TPS today got it down to 496 from 863 and feels brilliant!

Iv got a K&N to put in and so Keihin main jets on order but seems a shame to spoil the smoothness I have now ha....
Well done Scott. You noticed the improvement then. :thumbup: How long did it take you to get it to 496, fiddly job :lol:

Not exactly "done to" yet, but won some Harris R1 rearsets for £26.
They won't bolt on mine yet, but soon, with a little adaptor plate welded onto the frame.......
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

And I changed the 'orrible, crud covered filter for a nice shiny new one! :D

Cheers mate, all in all it took me about 45 mins to whip tank off, air box and carbs, tinker with the TPS (took the longest) and quick blast/wheelie round the block :lol:

Will the K&N with bigger jets make a big difference? :lol:

TBH not unless it gets tuned in perfect, even then there are claims that K&N's actually loses you a bit bhp. How true that is I don't know. Obviously K&N themselves have their own ideas and claims. Can be be fun playing with the carbs and trying to get it tuned in right though

maybe stick with the standard filter for now and shim your needles. See how you get on, then maybe at a later date put an aftermarket filter on. There's lot of them out there to choose from, so do your research then decide which, if any to get.

It's all down to how much you want to keep pulling the carbs off your bike and having a tinker and learn at the same time. :wink:

i order a lot of sh1t and couriers don't have a problem following a polite instruction, just my bell end of a post man,

we used to have a regular few year back called Stuart he was a top guy, he would have a brew sometimes if i was in and up, and he check on the house and stuff when you wasn't around on holiday

its just some tick turd now that climbs over the wall at the gardens and walks over the flowers, had just planned about 80 quids worth of flowers last year and this prick jumped the fence straight onto them and i was walking out the garage door at the time and i went ballistic, he's been a wonker since to be honest, the wombles school boy paper boy doesn't jump the wall so why should a grown adult!

What would be the consequences of putting in the 180 and 185 Keihin jets without the K&N? And shimming the needles?

It would run very rich which would cause it to feel a bit flatt, maybe even struggle like BSM's. I have a K&N and am running 180 and 182, I tried the 185 and it was a tad to rich for my liking.

I shall have to see what the dyno says when I get a run done. I may end up going back to the 185 or dropping to a 178 and 180. But then I will have to adjust my needle clip position as well. For now I am happy with the 180 and 182.

Remember when reading these or other posts to distinguish whether someone is talking about Dyno jets or the Factory/Keihin there is a difference.

I thought the gear linkage on the r1 went above the gear change lever .

Yours is Keihin sizes arnt they? What's your mixture setting for them sizes Carl? What mixture settings would you start with for a 180 and 185 in?

Yeah I'm very carful the distinguish between the dyno sizes ;-)

I'm deffo going to try the k&n with the bigger jets as they are already bought now :-)

My mixture is set according to pilot jet size. I have a 50 pilot which factory pro provided and yes they are Keihin sizes. My mixture is set at approx 1.5 turns out. If you have 48 pilots you will find the mixture to be approx 2.5 turns. But these are approximate and you will need to fine tune maybe 1/16th to 1/4 maybe 1/2 turn in either direction according to other settings. There is no set setting.

Give the K&N a go, try the bigger mains, maybe shim the needles 1or two washers, then set your 48 pilots at 2.5turns and go from there. See how that feels.

Keep notes of everything you do and how it affects things so you can always revert back if needs be. And as Lloydie keeps reminding me, change one thing at a time, try it, then alter as accordingly. Once you start changing too many things at once it gets hard to know what affect one thing is having on another. :thumbup:

You could even become a carb addict like me. :lol:
