Post by TonyW650 »

Hi all

While giving the bike a good clean today and sorting out my indicator issue, Sodding LED indicators
I found a a small hose and cant work out what it is or where it comes from
it was tucked behind a frame rail by the head stock and runs down to a T just at the front of the engine at the bottom of the V.
what is it lol?
bike is running fine just cant work out where its ment to go

Could be a carb balance/scottoiler vacuum hose - is the free end plugged?

its a open end

looks like a over flow
runs down the right hand frame rail picks up the T then one end goes over and come out on the lower side of the front left of engine, with all the other drains/ breathers and the the other side of the t comes back and looks like it goes under the expansion bottle in the V.
its open ended up by the front of the air box
it dont look like its been attached to anything, no marks of a clip on it etc...

What does the connected end fit onto - can you take a pic ?

Have you got anything on the front cylinder vacuum take off point or has it got the original plug bolt?

cant see where it goes under the water bottle, starting to think its a fuel tank breather or something, as did have the front of the tank lifted up this morning by a few inches. and sucking it slightly gets the vapour of fuel in my gob lol

okay There should be two breather / drain pipes that run from the bottom of the tank , but they should run straight down to the left of the bike (as you sit on it) exiting nr the front by the standard belly pan.

What the ID of the mystery hose and when you say it connects to a T then it sounds like there are then at least 3 hoses in the 'network...

internal diameters on something like 4 mm, its not very big lol
sitting on the bike hose comes from left hand lower front with all the other breathers etc
across front of engine, to a T adaptor on the right hand side just above the water pump and then one line goes up towards the head stock( the line that I cant work out what its for)
And the other goes down under the expansion bottle and looks like it goes across the engine to the other side just cant see where thou.
my storm is a import I believe its got kph clocks, thats what Im assuming

4mm is vacuum hose size - What's the current set up for the fuel tap vacuum hose which should connect from the rear cylinder take off, to the rear of the fuel tap.

The T piece could have possibly ran a scottoiler, but seems odd that it leads up to the headstock. Pics would really help in working out what on earth is going on.

I found this setup on another bike I worked on last year..... couldn't work out what was going on and so I just left a single line for balancing purposes and removed the tee piece section.

I wondered if it might be someone's idea of connecting the two vacuums together- I've heard that mentioned before but it doesn't have any beneficial effect.

I'd recommend a remove and forget, and move on.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

cheers tony, just got me a bit stumped as the end of the hose has no marks of being attached or clipped to anything, and the internal has no marks either so just a open end.
