Gear shift rod

Post by TonyW650 »

Hi guys,
while giving the bike a clean today, noted that my gear shift rod is bent.
Now checked on the net and its ment to be 158mm end to end, the reason I ask the question is my neighbour has got a tracked zx12r and hes taking a load of anodised parts off it and just happens to have a shift rod in red which will match my bike, But its 154mm in length, will I be able to get away with it?
as ir would look nicer lol

I would have thought the .4 difference wouldn't effect things much, after all they are threaded with a certain degree of adjustability. If it's your neighbour why not just give it a try and if it don't work for you, then give it back.

Just cut 2mm off the threaded section both ends.
You'll have slightly less adjustment, but as long as you can adjust it to give a 90 degree bend at rest between the lever arm and the rod; and the rod and the gearbox actuator arm, then you'll be ok.

Of course, the cut ends will have no anodising, once cut.

So it'll be lighter and also less red anodised- bonus!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
