It sure is a myth, you don't get sparks of a mobile which is what needed (or extreme heat)

It's all about the 'flash point' which is when it turns into vapour. For petrol is about -40 degrees C off top of my head, that's why you can see vapours as its practally 'boiling' at room temp.

That's why diesel is less volatile because it has a lower flashpoint, in fact you could put a match to diesel and you'll find it very hard to ignite!

aviation fuel or 'Jet A1' is the same as diesel mate, its diesel based kerosene. Petrol (octane) is by far the most volatile :-)

When I balanced my carbs on my gixer I cut up an old 500ml rabbit water bottle took the ball out the nozzle and suspended it from an old metal bird feeder hanger (I've got a pic somewhere) with tubing to the carbs = home made auxilery fuel tank, works a treat, still got it. Looked like a drip for a bike

Have you put the pipes back on properly and turned the fuel tap on?

I forgot my fuel tap the other day as I was rushing easily done doh! :-(

well im gravity feeding the fuel in pipes thjrough bottles as i dnt have my tank but as many have sed with wat wudda been left in carbs it shud fire up just on that anyway alough it never has so there must styill be fuel in there just turns over but never firing up and starting ..

OK you need to start with the ignition and see if there's a spark, you have disabled the alarm haven't you. If you have a spark then move on to fuel and check that is getting through to the carbs. It's probably going to take some turns on the crank the first time for the fuel to get through. Then double check all you electrics.

Start with the basics, process of elimination and go through things methodically.
