Hello fellow stormers

Post by riggcr500 »

Treat me with ease, i`m a forum virgin. As the very proud owner & enthusiastic rider of a 98 firestorm, all i can say is, "why did i not buy 1 earlier"? All previous bikes were of the 4 cylinder variety, the last being a ZZR1100 D6 but the Firestorm is the best 1 ever by far. Not many mods to the bike but the best are a set of Micron cans, with the packing removed of course, the sound is truly amazing. Know now how addiction is easily aquired.
Looking at a few other mods now, tax & mot out next month, so bike will be parked up, lives in my front room, being a single dad does have it`s major benefits. Have the chance to purchase a Spondon swingarm off Steve Elliott, famed Performance Bikes readers specials builder, Freddie Spencer rep & Duzi. Was looking for a decent rear shock but not a budget buster, fork springs. All ideas will be greatly appreciated, as well as any other begginers mods. Ta very much. Forgot to mention i live near Carlisle, just far enough awat though!

Welcome to the forum

Sound like you going to be very busy. Plenty of mods that can be done. First thigns first, make sure she is mechanically good. CCT's should be first on your list.

Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)

CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!
You can either go for the stop mod http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=19416 Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720

Then with regards to fitting View Topic View Topic http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326

Have fun.

Hi, there.

Addictive, aren't they?
CCT's and reg/rec to get started, then read the forum and deal with the envy, with the assistance of Eblag.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Welcome aboard riggcr500

As already mentioned CCT's and rectifier are the most important two things to do first. The original rectifier on your bike would have been one without cooling fins, this caused them to over heat and consequently have a limited life. Yours may have already been replaced. It's located in behind the seat/tail fairing, on the right hand side (rear brake pedal side). If you remove the seat you should just about be able to see it.

Thanks for the reply & offer for a ride out. Taking the bike off the road next month (t&t out) so gives me ample time to give it a good going through & get ready for (hopefully) the better weather next year.

Thanks for the reply & good info. Will look into reg/rec soon, taking bike off the road next month, tax/test out, so will give me ample time to get my hands dirty. Great info to be had all over the site, cheers.

Hi, yeah seems a very friendly site, tongue in cheek with a few, but very good & informative. If money was no object.....
