hello, I am new to this forum. I've had my 2002 VTR for about a month now and am totally getting into it! I bought the bike from the first owner who bought it new, put on 15750 mi, never changed any of the factory settings, installed a Sargent seat and gel handle grips but nothing else. The PO sold the bike to get a new BMW LT, said the VTR scared him. I got a new set of leathers, tank bag and soft bags with the bike and got a great deal. He wanted to sell and no one else was interested. I scored big! So far I've changed out the R/R for the new R1 unit and have the manual cct's to install. All that said, I need to set up the stock suspension for optimum performance until I can get a decent shock in the rear and springs/valves for the front. Anyone here have advice?

welcome to the forum twist, have a good read, a 6mm rear shock spacer helps quicken the steering and cost pennies, have fun with your bike buddy

To get the best out of the worst, Performance Bikes recommended settings Rear Preload - Position 2 Rebound - ¼ of a turn out from full in. Front Preload - 2nd groove showing Rebound - ¼ of a turn out from full in.
Then add a 6mm shock spacer and drop the forks 10mm.

thank you all for the great welcome! I've been bitten bad by this bike! I'm preparing to do the CCT's as soon as possible. The bike is more or less new but I don't trust the stock CCT's. Part of that upgrade may cost me the timing hole plug and alternator plug. I noticed that gl_s_r was making and selling replacement plugs. Is he still doin' that gig? Know where I can get my hands on a nice set like that?
