engine wnt start !!!!

cant get my engine to start after rebuilding it all bak tgteher it turns over etc just will not fire up was last started 3 mnths ago .. any ideas of what cud be the cause ?

Have you checked if fuel is getting through and if there is a spark?

well i can smell fuel wen starting up but how do i check spark ?

Take the spark plug/s out and put it against the frame and turn the engine over. See if a spark is being generate. Make sure you're not touching any metal part of the bike though!!

Have you disabled the alarm immobiliser or pushed the button on your remote to deactivate?

Don't know why but I held on to the bonnet prop whilst checking a spark on a ford escort the shock put me on the deck. Lesson learnt the hard way.

It would do. High voltage coming from coils The amps are not much more than a shock of your ring main indoors, but the coils are pushing out 18000-2000v I would have thought.

Any luck with the starting yet?

nope ive un wired the alarm to put it bak to standard way of starting .. but its the same u push the start button it turns over and starts to sound like its gonna run but as soon as u let go of the electric start button it just cuts out again i cnt figure it out

Are you sure the ignition cut out on the alarm is disabled. Didn't you have to splice a wire to connect that part up. So in which case that will need joining back together.

So is the fuel tap switched on? Have you got a spark? Can you smell fuel, is it getting through?
It could be something really silly like a wire not connected somewhere. I can't help thinking about those hoses and how your carbs are connected up.

Your going to have to go through it methodically starting with, checking for a spar on both cylinders. If yo have a spare plug knocking about then you don't even need to remove any.

well i got it started eventually but wen it started idoling for like 30 seconds exaust is scalding hot and there is a burning smell and smoke coming from where the tank bolts on at the seat side .. i pannicked and shut it off ... can a tank explode ? lol

It's most likely dirt or oil on the rear exhaust header .
And just make sure the tank ain't leaking

it smells more like electric burning rather than fuel ... but i checked all the wires nowt seems to have melted or anything but as much i think yes maybe its just the paint on the exausts or muk or excess spilt oil etc im to scared to leave it running to find out if it passes as im unsure on the whole can the tank blow up on me ? klol
