Re: front sproket removal
Put the bike in first gear and use a long handle on your socket ratchet for leverage and try cracking it undone.

Re: front sproket removal
and it wont cause any damage doing that while its in gear ?
Re: front sproket removal
+1 on putting it in gear
Try using a long breaker bar (2' or 4') and have someone stand on the rear brake or put a good sized lump of wood in the wheel / swing arm.
Make sure the bike doesn't rotate and fall over ;)
Be carefull you don't round off the nut....

Re: front sproket removal
Yes it's safe to put it in gear. One of you stand on the back brake pedal as well. Then either use a torque wrench or breaker bar. Make sure you bend back any locking tabs that may be on the nut first

...and 27mm is exactly (well to 1/100mm) 1 and 1 sixteenth in imperial size, so if you've not got a metric socket or spanner look in your old imperial toolbox...cybercarl wrote:This may be of some help to you http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/forum/f ... 9r-108138/Apparently a 27mm socket fits.![]()

Re: front sproket removal
okay we now have another problem ... just been informed the chain was grinded off so the bike doesnt have a chain so all the instructions in wat to do seem like they cannot be done now .. any ideas ?
Re: front sproket removal
Putting it in gear should still work but you have now lost the back brake. and made it twice as hard
You could put the new chain on and then use the back brake to help remove the the front sprocket and change it for the new one. I think you need to have a go at undoing it first, it may, if your lucky, come off reasonably easy with it just being in gear and some good leverage.
