PAIR System removal

I removed this unit from my W reg Bandit without any serious consequences apart from the loss of 1.5 kg in weight. However the bandit was none powered system. My F2 model has an electronically driven unit. my questions are:

Has anyone removed the electronic variant?
Is there any benefit in removing it apart form weight & less pipes?
Where would I be able to optain the rocker cover blanking plates & airbox plugs from, is there an available kit out there?
I am presuming on my electrically driven unit i would be able to use that power source for another application eg: Sat nav unit?

I was thinking of suggesting to you to remove the PAIR in your valves thread I just read

I think the main benefit of removing the PAIR is that it gets rid of some of the popping on deceleration that may occur. It may even give you a little more power as the PAIR is to do with emissions control which is normally at the expense of loosing a bit of power.

The yanks are the experts with the PAIR system, loads of info on the Hawk site and they have blanks for the cam covers. Depending on the cost of blanking plates, why not just fit older-style cam covers?
And yes, I have several spares; all will need a respray though.

It also does remove alot of the bubbling & popping on the overrun. BTW it is something Adyf should look at, he is always after loosing weight

OK all found the site with the necessary kit to remove the pair system. Have used them before for my B12.

Ok here goes with pics.

Tank off/ Airbox off.



Next remove the fuel control valve & suspend out of the way.





Next deal with the Airbox. Remove the PAIR unit & bung the hole in the airbox





Now remove the reed valve plate on top of the rocker cover.



This exposes the reed valve



Gently prise the valve out & since I wanted to refit the valves as they have a good seal seat I flipped the reed valve over before re-fitting them.

Then the blanking plates were fitted

Note you could also discard the internals. I did not due to the useable seal they offer. Also you will see on top of the PAIR unit there is a small vacuum attachment point. The small pipe that connects to this will need to be capped off.

I have had mine removed (with help from Carl) on my 03 storm while doing cct's. I'm gonna fit Two Brothers Racing blank plates to bling it up a bit

When we did it rocker the covers were off and we noticed an 'O' Ring and collet which we initially removed.
This is needed in the later models as if not in place it bellows oil out of the exhausts and fills airbox with oil also.

Just a tip for anyone who attempts this for future refrence

I have no concerns about the tiny bit of emissions that come from my bike when there are 1000's of commercial aircraft flying around the world on a 24/7 basis. Not to mention the crap that comes from military vehicles and weapons. What's good for the goose is good for the gander and all that. We can't have one rule for one and another for others, unless of course the powers to be need an excuse to fine us for things they created out of thin air. We should be more concerned about Fracking as we are just about to create earthquakes. We would have no roads then.
