I do not write this as a recommendation only as a note of interest.
I never let my bike idle at a stop for more than a minute so the cooling fan is just dead weight for me.Removing it has improved the air flow and efficiency to the point of where I had to fit a warmer thermostat
to regain mpg.On a hot Summers day the cooling system is a bit marginal and this mod sorts it out.I have run it this way for a full year .

Re: Cooling Note
where did you source the warmer thermostat as I was looking at letting the storm run cooler, as I only run he in the summer.
Re: Cooling Note
Wouldn't a warmer thermostat open later so allowing the bike too warm up more quickly?

Re: Cooling Note
So on a really warm day stuck in traffic in town to stop it over heating you will have to stop the engine correct. Each time you restart you will loose all the fuel efficiency gained. For extra cooling I would prefer adding a larger oil cooler & keep the fan. Personal preference.oldbikeman wrote:I do not write this as a recommendation only as a note of interest.

Re: Cooling Note
You've also got two different pressure cap settings to choose from- if I remember right 1.1 and 1.3.
You can play with those to get different running temps.
Don't forget the SP1 four row oil cooler mod as well, which will also help if you have high comp pistons and an ignition advancer, both of which will make it run hot.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I used a stat from aF 2 cbr600 .No you don't use more fuel switching the engine off ,it's so weak an argument it doesn't deserve an explanation. I posted this for just for reference .I had never used my fan in ten years so why lug it about when it adds to the problem in the first place. This is no new mod it has been applied to cars and bikes for years.Raise the cap pressure if you are having boiling up problems only.Oh yea warming up time is unaffected , only the temp ceiling is raised. Also note this motor is NOT oil cooled and won't alter the overall engine temp.Only add a oil cooler if the oil temps get high which they don't under road use.We are blessed with having a duel circuit oil system which is easy to improve for racing, better than a rc51-52 in fact.

Sorry I should have mentioned only do this if you improve the rad efficiency first.(Remove the blower).bazza696 wrote:where did you source the warmer thermostat as I was looking at letting the storm run cooler, as I only run he in the summer.
