My Silver Storm

Post by Rampant Lion »

I've made a few mods to the bike since getting it last year. I never was keen on the bars, but liked the bike too much too sell it on. I decided to alter the bike to suit me and what I use the bike for ie. going to rallies and a bit of running abroad, looking forward to again going to Moto Clube Faro Rally on the storm. I took of the standard bars, drilled the top yoke and bolted on risers, 3" up and 2" back. To this I put on some Renthal Superbike bars with Oxford heated grips. A bar across the handlebars made fitting the satnav easy. Changed the brake lines too. Cables all are standard length. Added a set of Z900 mirrors so I could see behind me. Seating position is now for me just right.

At the rear I bought some rails so I could fit a topbox on. I know it looks a bit too far to the rear, however if I put it any further forward I cannot lift the seat. For the boxes I bought some second hand Givi rails from a Bandit 600. I cut off the brackets and fabricatecd some new ones, had them welded up and hey ho. I chose the smaller cruiser panniers because I never have a passenger on so there is ample room for my bits in them. Top loading too, I like that. Also the sweep of the exhausts meant I am a bit restricted on the box height.

All in all I'm really pleased with how it has turned out, just been on a 1100 miles run from Scotland to Cardiff and Derby with no issues at all.

I know my mods will not be to everyone's taste, but if we were all the same how would that be.

Nice SilverWing - Have you been tempted by the XL1000V Varadero?

Thanks for asking, but no. I like the low weight of the bike and am not keen on loads of fairing.

These are the risers I used. One thing though, you cannot lift the tank off with the risers coming back so far, you will need to undoe the risers from under the yoke first. The seller also sells other sizes though.
The bars are Renthal superbike bars. Thanks for the comments..

The footpegs are good for me, I tend to ride with my toes on the pegs as opposed to the flat of the boot.

Aye,well I spotted you southbound on A74 a couple of Sunday 's ago. Looked and sounded very nice. Then the following Sunday I saw you going back north. Looks like you still had to cut the fairing ? I don't think sitting up position is far away for me either. :biggrin

I did pass a couple of riders going south, one was on a Firestorm. I gave him the thumbs up...was that you . At the time they were just pulling off the carraigeway.

I was heading for Rhyl, couple of days meeting up with an old friend. Then down through Wales to my son's new house near Cardiff. After that I headed for the Ribcrackers MCC Rally at Burton on Trent. Back up the M6/M74 on the Sunday through lashings of rain and wind. Good run though..
