just had my renewal off ebike 197.14 tft basic cover 9 insurers can beat that and MCE for 187.14 including free rac breakdown and protected ncd do these companys think your just going to believe there the best ??? does anyone use MCE
Re: insurance
I usually just go for whatever is the cheapest. As long as the bike comes up as insured on the database and is legal that's all I care about. At the end of the day you could be paying more for protected this and that or other added extras. But insurers being insurers will find a loophole so they don't have to pay out as much or worm their way out of things and screw you over when it comes down to it. That is just the nature of the game. They are as bad a bankers.

Carol Nash: Comprehensive - Agreed Value - Protected NC - Recovery. About £175 IIRC for an old fart like me - All this depends on where you live, age, track record and excess.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Re: insurance
Being an old git (Mid 40's) has its advantages - Last Year Carole Nash did me fully comp (6yrs NCB, no points) for £100. Not had the renewal yet.
Whats struck me as odd though is that the new bike (650 crusier) is worth similar money and is something like Group 8 instead of Group 13 or whatever the Storm is but when I got a quote for that it was approximately 20% more
I eventually managed to find fully comp for £75 but took some hunting down....and how do you define modifications? Unless it is very expensive (say custom paint) or performance enhancing (turbo etc) I cant see why it should make a blind bit of difference, they usually only pay out book price in any event afaik.
There are several insurers who once you say different indicators, grips, hugger whatever will just refuser to cover

Re: insurance
Used MCE - cheapest as I was a new customer, then on renewal time they quoted £178 tpft, best they could do was £158. Swinton Bike gave me better cover for £56. Play the game and shop around every year. They rip us off.
Interesting thing at the weekend in the paper. Accidents - level is lowest ever. Costs of cars etc - cheapest they've ever been, incl spare parts. Reliability - best ever. Costs of insurance admin - rock bottom. Costs associated with insurance companies - courtesy cars, repair networks and so on, have rocketed and account for highest ever % of insurance costs. Only conclusion - the wombles (ins companies, approved partners etc) are lining their pockets at our expense.

Re: insurance
I've been with MCE for about 3 years now I can't fault their service, I had a non fault accident last year and their legal cover was excellent, the little old lady will look harder next time she turns. As for ebike, last time I checked it was all web based so you can't actually talk to a person should you need to. I vote MCEtoonarmy wrote:just had my renewal off ebike 197.14 tft basic cover 9 insurers can beat that and MCE for 187.14 including free rac breakdown and protected ncd do these companys think your just going to believe there the best ??? does anyone use MCE

Same, MCE will cover you 3rd party on someone else's bike too which can be very handy to have,Steve.Storm wrote:I've been with MCE for about 3 years now I can't fault their service, I had a non fault accident last year and their legal cover was excellent, the little old lady will look harder next time she turns. Also they are decent on the phone, book it through the web tho as its cheaper than on the phone with them even if you tell them the online price and give a reference? think the call centre place is based in scotland as most times i've rang its been a jock on the blower, much better on the phone than india or a birmingham based call centre (no offence intended we all know its hard work speaking to a person with a strong asian accent)
Plus i get decent email offers from Club MCE with discount on race tickets and offers
Also if you have any MOD's on the bike MCE won't charge you for them unless you want them replacing in the event of a claim, if you have fitted significant power modifications such as Turbos they will put more on the premium tho, but for full exhaust and race filter etc it's as normal unless as said you want them replacing in a loss claim
Send them an email with your modifications and keep a hold of their reply in a plastic wallet under the bike seat just to cover yourself should you get an arsey copper asking if you have declared this and that to the insurance company, Friend wayne had his car taken off him for lowering his car and the police said his insurance was void as he had modifications not declared to the insurer
Also they cover you riding abroad which is handy for a summer euro tip
Not a bad package for the price
