all done, thanks to all for the helpful advice. I got Flatty's 9 year old daughter to pull out lloydiecbr's weights from his donated clipon, nice easy job for her.

Stuck the old clipon in the vice and 2 pulls later out it came and then stuffed them into the new clipon.

The bar end tightens up nicely even with the heated grips on, so ta lloydiecbr for the clipon and everyone for the advice.

i just grabbed it with a set of long-nosed pliers and gave it a gentle tug and it just came away nicely in my hand
