Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
went out for a little ride today, apart from the high end fuelling the bike was running very well indeed, at the mo i have a bmc road air filter on the bike, its a lone from carl, its tough to say if theres much of a difference, i think its a bit better than the k&n filter but until i get the fuelling sorted its hard to tell
.
i took my hagon shock back to hagon this afternoon, they're going to service/rebuild it free of charge and send it back to me with a new 2 year warranty, free of charge because of the shock failing whilst out for a ride with kev and lee.
top service from hagon but it was a surprise for the shock to have failed after less than 2000 miles

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Moved it out of the MacCave...
So I could get on with laying this...

An hour, two Stanley blades & some spray glue round the edges later...

Moved all the stuff back in, made some brackets, put up the speakers, connected up, hi-fi. (yet another blag BTW )

Good customer service. At least they are sorting it out for free and with a new warranty.i took my hagon shock back to hagon this afternoon, they're going to service/rebuild it free of charge and send it back to me with a new 2 year warranty, free of charge because of the shock failing whilst out for a ride with kev and lee.

Today I finally finished

I'm happy with the results and it's looking good, though I am very self critical and I could pick holes with it and it could be better. The shine is unbelievable, it looks like it has been waxed.

I have taken some pics but they are not the best as the light was fading. I will take some better ones tomorrow. Not long now until I get to put them on the bike.

Here some pics.

And I tried taking one with my torch to show the slight imperfections. Not to bad considering it's my first time, and there is not too much hazing. I could probably improve on it in the future with a bit more rubbing down and waxing.

Nice clear reflection.

I thought I would take some of the mudguard too.

A couple of quick pics indoors under artificial lighting.

I feel so relieved that's it all completed.
If anyone says it's not possible to do a good paint job with rattle cans then they are not doing it properly.

Carl mate that's a beautiful bit of work,
would be good to see a how to paint section in the workshop knoedgle base with your tips and advice, what paints to use, cure times, papers to use etc etc
Congrats again, surprised you didn't lay down some blue final paint coats for the extra horses gained from its use

Re: what have you done to your "bike" today
Well hopefully if it's dry the weekend I might get it all back on the bike. I have yet to hear the new (used) engine run
Black is one of the hardest colours to do as well as it shows all the imperfections. The only thing I should have done in hindsight, as I done loads of rebuilding, body repair work, is that I should have put some high build primer on as well. It would have saved on some rubbing down time and I would have had a better finish at the end of it.
Next year I will be doing my VTR so maybe if I organise myself properly I will do a proper write up tutorial for the knowlagebase then.
Mac I'm liking the new floor mate, looks very good. Super non slippy.

That's not polish as in the way you may think of polish
It's not the top coat ie what is labelled as wax/polish in auto stores. It's basically a cutting compound/T-cut type product but marketed at professional bodyshops/detailers http://www.menzernausa.com/menzerna-automotive.htm I used 4 different grades starting with the course ending up with the fine. Obviously
I have yet to apply any top coats for protection like sealants/wax.
