Strange markings?!

Post by Benno_0214 »

While oiling the chain tonight I spotted writing on my engine; just above the front sprocket; says 'FM 97' in paint pen, would this be a production marking or am I looking at a marking that has been put on by a breakers?! :eek2 Little worried as I haven't had it long, the engine and frame numbers match the log book.

It's not uncommon for them to be there .
You must have a very clean low mileage bike for them to still be there .

Cheers, glad that's normal. It's done 22k, I was wondering if perhaps the engine had been swapped or something. Bought a TL1000 last year from my local garage and within the first 2 days of owning it I ended up broken down, under closer inspection found that it had been seriously botched, wiring, welded and all sorts.... Ended up fighting for a refund.... Guess I'm just paranoid now :? I might post about them in the name and shame section

It worked out ok in the end though cos you don't own a poosuki now so that's a result.

I have some painted on marks on the rear of the crankcase just below the rear link pipe. It did make me wonder about my engine, and my first thought was breakers. :eek2

What on earth are you doing looking there?

Run yourself over?

+4 they''re normal, production quality checking I think.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

As there seems to be some confusion about where a strange markng may be, this, having used Google, is what is the internet world's first listed image of a strange marking. Seems others have the same issue

+5 :)

Benno,

You can't quite see the ones you're talking about, but they are written with a marker just like the ones you can see in the photo below:-
