Indicators are on the .......blink

Post by Benno_0214 »

My indicators suddenly stopped working on the way home from work yesterday, none of them flash but the relay is clicking away, the instrument lights on the dash aren't working either. I took the seat fairing off last night to get access to the relay, and gave it a little tap and the right hand inicators started working ok then, another tap and they all started working?!?! Put it back together and it wouldn't work again! Do we think I need a new flasher relay or could it be something else? Don't want to fork out for the wrong thing.
Cheers Ben

sounds like the relay or the wires going to it are loose .

yep i'd agree with that. As they're just spade connectors, take em off and clean them with some contact cleaner and squeeze them together a little bit with some pliers to make them tighter (fnarr). Clean the contacts on the relay and put it back together and stick some dielectric grease over the top to stop it from going all wonky in the future. If that doesn't fix it replace the relay (you might be able to take the cover off yours or it might be moulded)

Ok, I've just had a fiddle and got them going again, I think the flasher unit is just about on its last legs so I will have to try eBay for one. I tried putting a ripple up the exhaust but that didn't cure the problem.

Cheapy ebay universal ones just shake themselves to bits in no time - try another relay from most late 90s/early 00s +500cc Hondas.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
