Hi, I have recently purchased a minter red Firestorm and love the bike having owned many different sports bikes. Having consulted this fab forum I have decided to do the CCT(fail safe) mod as posted by Sirch. My question is once I have done it and in the future the CCT fails do I just swap the internal bar from the knackered CCT into the new one and install. Or would I have to install the new CCT as standard, lock off the worm screw as described 1/4 turn or 1/2 turn and re measure the distance needed for a new bar? Sorry if the question sounds stupid I was wondering what happens with new CCT mod installs. Bike has done 10000 miles and is F3 model, hopefully my modded CCT's will last. Decided against manuals!
Doing mod in next few weeks apprehensive but looking forward to the challenge! Thanks to Sirch for instructions etc! First sports twin, best fun on two wheels!

Re: CCT mod new CCT's
If you do a stopper mod and at a later date this fails you have to start all over again. So either buy new autos and do the stopper again, new bars as well because of wear and tear and the new spring in the cct which will be a different tension, the stopper may need do be a slightly different length
So it's basically start again with new auto's and do the stopper or fit manuals.
And welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the prompt reply! Hopefully they won't fail too soon after the mod is done. Interestingly I haven't yet found a post where anyone has reported a failure post modification.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Done the mod, everything went swimmingly thanks to excellent advice and instructions found on this site.
Couple of things to note! It took me the best part of six hours to do, although I must have spent two hours fishing dropped nuts out of the V of the engine, nightmare. Magnetic screwdriver would have been sensible.
I did take my time double checking everything and I'm not a mechanic so maybe three hours is achievable, but hey its not a race!
sh1t myself starting it for the first time but glad to say sweet as a nut. Just been for a two hour ride, the old girl is running like a dream. So happy I can stop worrying my bike might eat my valves and pistons!
Anyone thinking of doing this and worried, just take your time read the timing instructions, and the stopper mod from Sirch. Make sure you have the right tools, loctite and gasket sealer. If a beginner like me can do it, anyone can!
Happy Storming!!

well done
now have some

Re: CCT mod new CCT's
It will depend on the amount of miles your bike had covered since fitting the stopper on whether or not you need to go through the whole process again. It's only when the cam chain(s) stretch you'd eventually need a longer stopper. Saying that it will take a lot of miles (or huge abuse to the engine) to stretch the cam chains enough for the stopper length needing to be re-calculated, especially as the instructions I've provided for doing this mod keep the stopper as long as possible.firemink wrote:My question is once I have done it and in the future the CCT fails do I just swap the internal bar from the knackered CCT into the new one and install.
