Wotcha !
Wotcha !
Hey All
Just bought my first VTR, a 1998 red model,42 000 miles, the red ones are always the fastest ..........
First impressions are great and alot of bike for the money, it has a lower fairing belly pan, plus manual camchain adjusters and a few other bits and bobs.
What I need to do first is to raise the handle bars about one inch. Are there any other Honda bars that will achieve this ?
Also:
How are the valve clearances controlled ? Shims ? Screw type adjusters ? Other ?
What should I also look out for ?
Cheers
Matt

Things to look out for Matt- blue bikes overtaking you, obviously! The reg/rec fails on early bikes (non finned RR).
Higher bars were fitted to the facelift VTR post 2001, wing decal on 19l tank model, or VFR bars give a lift.
Good luck and welcome to the club.

Welcome to the forum.
Yes look out for Matt- blue bikes overtaking you, it wont be those shiny Tahitian ones as they are way to slow.
With the bars you can put early VFR 800 bars on if you want the original manufacturers type look or you could fit Renthals. The valves are Shim type.
Have a good look through the workshop knowlagebase http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=31 loads of info in there.

Re: Wotcha !
Welcome to the land of grunters. Not a million miles from me either, but not just down the road as well. You'll get used to the colour banter, easy to remember, red for embarrassment, yellow for sick, Tahitian blue is more like what you call a parrot, silver is a foil for the only colour a real storm should be. Black.
