Backfire in air box?!

Hi everyone!

I have recently bought myself a storm, I'm loving it! Just a quick question really, is it common for the bike to pop and backfire into the air box? Mine seems to do it every once in a while at very low revs, and sometimes cuts out
A guy I work with had a storm years ago when they first came out, he seems to remember his did the same?
It's a totally standard bike, runs really well apart from this occasional air box fart!

Any help would be apprieciated!

'carb fart' perfectly normal - just raise the idle a notch to lessen the chance of it stalling in a tight corner.

If you get the carbs sync mate it helps a lot and doesn't do it quite as often.

if its standard have a think about the cct,s and the reg/ rec, its all on here how to sort them out

Cheers for the advice! I'm gonna take a look at the cct etc soon, didn't realise until I looked on here that they had this issue. Better safe than sorry tho!

If you going to be doing you CCT's then it's the perfect opportunity to fit a front cylinder vaccum take off for carb syncing http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 31&t=18430 and do a carb sync.

You seem to like posting links It's good that your reading all these threads but if you read that thread all the way through you would realise that that came down to a carb balance as well. Yes TPS does help but it could just as well be a simple carb balance that will sort it out.

IMHO I think it generally comes down to the bike needed a good tune up. This could mean altering a few things. Remove carbs and give them a clean, check the jetting and mixture setting, while carbs are off adjust the TPS, also while carbs are off fit a front vacuum take off for carb balance simplicity. Re-fit carbs and balance them. Warm bike up to running temp and get the mixture spot on, then maybe another carb balnce.

Or just turn the idle speed up a tad and forget about it.
