Ok, my last post on this thread.

Riding a bike with the high beam on annoys other road users - bikes, cars and vans - both those travelling towards you and in the same direction.

High beams dazzle other road users, so although you may attract their attention initially, they tend not to look at you afterwards. If someone shines a bright light in your eyes, your instinctive reaction is to look away. If they can't look at you, then they will not be able to judge your speed or position as you "make progress", thus negating any safety advantage you may have gained by attracting their attention.

You do not have the right to go to any lengths to protect your safety at the expense of other people. I assume that all you main beam users also wear Sam Browne belts, or better still fluorescent jackets because they are more visible? All ride light coloured bikes? Ride within the speed limits at all times (because speed kills, right?). No? Then perhaps you should consider other safety precautions that do not have such a negative impact on other road users. If you think that motorcycles are that dangerous, perhaps you should consider a Volvo, or public transport. Otherwise accept that riding a motorcycle carries an element of risk, and deal with it

Finally, in the event of a collision the motorcyclist invariably comes off worst. It is your observation, road positioning and that "sixth sense" that we all develop that will stop you becoming a casualty, not blindly (sic) relying on other people to see you because you have your high beam on. Take responsibility for yourself, don't rely on someone else to keep you safe.

On a lighter note, I really don't know why I'm making this effort on a Firestorm site. They must have the worst bike headlight since the BSA Bantam. Mine can barely throw a puddle of light a yard in front of the wheel, let alone into a car's rear view mirror.

Ah ha...... (you ready for this guys....)

So after all that, you then slag off the VTR headlight.....

Bet you've got expensive race cans and other goosdies fitted eh.....

did we over look the fact that about £10.00 gets you a replacement blub that is much brighter, and more "visable"......

Hmmm,..... as i thought.......to busy making it sound lound & look good eh....

(he, he, he.... EB crawls back under his little rock, to watch the fallout.... )

Most decent "boy racer" car assessory shops stock upgrading blubs...

i've got "max power" blue blubs, they throw out a rainbow strobe, pick up white lines etc at night, and are much brighter in daylight than normal/standard bulbs

(carefull though, they tend to burn a LOT hotter than standard.....risk of frying your elleccies) (fit at own risk - mine have been ok though)
