Lack of power and noise after cct replacement
Re: Lack of power and noise after cct replacement
These little foam filters are there to filter the air into the diaphragm on the carbs. If the old ones had disintegrated there's a chance bits of foam have got sucked into your carbs. The one of the two small carb vent filters that are in the air box was torn apart, so i change is with some foam, and put samo ot the other too.
Having the vacuum disconnected will cause a lot of poppingi noticed the rear cylinder vacuum line was left free, not connected to the pet rock, and thought that it was causing the popping, because when i started the bike after cct fix the popping was gone.
A lean mixture can cause a bit of popping. Also the hesitation and then pulling (surging and hunting) can be a lean mixture as well.Well now it is back and i do not know if it is for good - on one hand before the cct failure the bike was popping but running well, on the other the popping is no good and my be result of lean mixture
One way to check to see if the bike is running lean is to take the air filter out and if it gets worse then it's lean. But a lot of your symptoms are pulling towards this.
Have you had the carbs apart at all. It may be worth stripping them down and giving them a thorough clean.http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=25177 and have a look at you jetting and mixture set up.

It's not too easy to diagnose this sort of thing on the forum. Can you get the bike to someone who knows what they're doing?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Lack of power and noise after cct replacement
Friday i removed the carbs and cleaned the jets, the carbs looked pretty clear over all.
Then i saw that the a/f screws are rather odd form - circle with a flat spot on one side. I was not able to turn them, do no have such tool, so i decided to try the "carb set up" mod from superhawk forum. I shimmed the niddles - 1 shim for the front, 2 for the rear, not sure the size of the shims. I skipped the blocking of the slide hole. I also fount that the washers under the slide spings were missing, so i put some banjo bolt washers insted(just to try, till i buy OEM ones). Put the bike back together and leaved it to sleep, cause it was 1 am.
Saturday i tried it around the town, it was runing great - may be better low and mid range, still no enough road to try at high rpm.
Sunday i put my leathers and took off. Bike runs great, accelerates pretty well with no flat spots till 9k.
Now will buy OEM spring washers and still thinking of installing bigger main jets - 180f/185r, because my bike has aftermarket pipes and cans and BMC filter...48 pilot may be?

i'm guessing you're in he states as here we have 48 pilots as standard and cross head mix screws or at least thats been my experiencechemomche wrote:Friday i removed the carbs and cleaned the jets, the carbs looked pretty clear over all.

if its running fine at the bottom and middle i wouldn't put bigger jets in than you already have instead i would just try a larger main as you know thats the primary jet used on full throttle and then see how your midrange and top is after that, you may have to adjust the needle position again.
i think the banjo bolt washers are thicker than the washers used in the slides too

Re: Lack of power and noise after cct replacement
by "48 pilots may be?" i meant that i am thinking of installing 48 pilots too, now the bike is with 45s
and my bike is EU version(or i believe so), i am in Bulgaria
So if low and mid range is good, you say i do not need the 48 pilots, but bigger mains? Will 180/185 i am thinking be good starting poin?
About the banjo washers - does anyone has OEM washers sizes?I found that these washers are about 3 paunds each, plus i have to wait 2-3 weeks to get them, while i can buy the same from a hard store if i had the measurements.
P.S. just to add, the bike now has really consistent idle, it can be left runing at 500-600rpm without stalling
i am not sure if this is good or bad

Re: Lack of power and noise after cct replacement
Hi, little update - i did shim and slide mod from the superhawk forum.
Bike runs pretty well, execpt from some electrical issues -the xenon bulb turn off from time to time and i have to restart it adn my tacho is a bit crazy on bumps.
Here is a short video.
(you can see at 14th second how i restart the headlight)
