Exhaust style

Post by lanny »

I would like to change the cans on my storm and would like them high level but dont like the swan neck style, i would prefer something similar to how they are swept up on the SP1/2. IS their anything out there off the shelf does any one know ?

it can be done with normal race cans .
i did it a while ago you just need to remove the lower rear set mount brackets from the link pipes and make new can hangers .
but looks best with longer cans

The right hand can is straight forward but the left is a little challenging as the SP has a 45 degree bend on the link pipe and the storm is 90. I ended up cutting the bend off and fitting a 90 degree mandrel pipe. The only other problem is the hangers. Here's my build thread http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... ilit=arata

The only problem with Lloydies method is that when you twist the link pipe to raise the angle it also pushes the can outwards away from the frame. It's not so much a problem with the right can but yet again the left is a problem because of the angle of the link pipe.

No kits out there that I'm aware off. It's either a case of buying cans including link pipes or just the link pipes for the sp1 and modding to fit. Or as Lloydie said manipulate the Storm ones. Have a go with the Storm ones and you will see what I mean about the way it pushes outwards as it's twisted up. When you pull the can back towards the frame you end up altering the angle where it links on at the link pipe and creates a gap as it's not flush anymore. The only other option is to have some link pipes made up. The only other thing you need to be aware off is that as the pipe bends up it gets closer to the base of the swingarm. Mine are touching it when not sitting on the bike.

Unfortunately there is no straight forward option and there is a bit of work/manipulation involved to get them to fit.

Got loads to do on mine, re-spray, suspension upgrades, 19l tank, digital dash, etc etc

I want to hear those cans in the flesh. They look lovely and I bet they sound just as good. In fact the whole bike is looking good, once he get the new tank and wheels done it will be top notch.

Looks spot on the work you did on that 19ltr Carl, no idea what state it was in before but i wouldn't have been non the wiser if you or bsm hadn't told me it was crashed, credit to you man!

Its top of the list to do mate, funds are looking up last night work said they have the Office Depot contact back as the courier company they changed to cannot cope with the volume they want shifting so that's an extra hour and half work per night for us which over a month makes a big difference

Probably take it in mid Jan as ive got insurance to pay for out of December wage (what a time to have annual insurance renewal lol)

You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.
