smoking rear link pipe

Post by agentpineapple »

on a couple of occasions now from a cold start, theres been excessive smoke eminating from where the rear linkpipe meets the main downpipes, at first i thought it was an electrical wire burning, but after a butchers it looks like the linkpipe, when the exhaust was put back together i noticed that the seal thingy that sits inside the exhaust has seen better days, would it be this that needs replacing? strangely it doesn't happen everytime :confused
just to say the exhaust is clean and hasn't had any coatings of wd40 or something similar.
any advice welcome guys

Mine did this when I took the exhaust off the other day. The graphite gasket is knackered and the exhaust is blowing. I got a new one off eBay for about a fiver, job sorted. Be careful when fitting as the gasket is weak, you will have to be very careful when fitting the new one.

Hope this helps
Ben

[quote="Benno_0214"]. The graphite gasket is knackered and the exhaust is blowing. /quote]

if you still have your old standard cans there is a graphite seal in the link pipe of each, same one as the rear header seal
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

it might be condensation chris, but its the smell that comes with it that concerns me, its almost has that electrical burning smell, this exhaust is standard and i've misdescribed where the problem is, the rear header pipe(the small section) meets the main downpipes, tucked in by the swingarm, maybe the old graphite seal is breaking up and water/condensation is getting in, then once the bikes started and the exhaust gets hot, this occurs...
if i can get it on video i will.

Interesting Marty, I know what you mean about the whiff of electrical burning, it sets you in panic mode 8O Hopefully it's not anything serious,
