Whats the quickest you've ridden?
Whats the quickest you've ridden?
Wondered how many 'Stormers out there would like to admit how fast they have ridden on a public road.
Yesterday me and a work colleage on his 99 Fireblade were riding home from work and although when he usually hares off at warp speed I let him go(self preservation of licence and life methinks)yesterday I just wound it open to match the 'storm for performance against a blade in a straight line.
He only just started pulling away slightly from me at about 120mph and by the time we had finished going down this(empty)bit of road I had an indicated 170 on the clock she was still pulling.
Yes I know doing this was pretty stupid but it was one hell of a buzz and I was surpised at how good the bike was up against a Blade in a straight line.
Anyone have any idea how innaccurate the clocks are on a Firestorm? His clocks also read 170 but i'm a realist and realise I could probably knock about 20 mph off that in real terms.

Had 150 not too far from Brands on my old ZX10. Was keeping up with my present storm, zx9,mille r, and a 949 (?)
We all backed off for the sliproad and quickly realised my speedo was shagged at 150. Got to Dover and discovered the ducati clock ( digital if i remember ?) also packed up about then, with a final speed showing of 160.
We were crazy to have risked that but ?????????????
Dont forget though, we actually backed off before reaching max speed ! How much was left i know not !

160+ (calculated). I had her at ~9.1k in 6th, and the Hayabusa I was following hadn't dropped it wide open and left me yet. I never saw what the speedo read, it was probably pegged. I was kinda otherwise occupied watching the road at that speed. Backed out and 110 indicated felt SLOW. I plugged the numbers in a gearing spreadsheet and with the stock 16t front she should have been running over 160. With my new 15t on the front, 160 is where she'll hit the rev limiter now.
May be a bit optimistic given wheel overspin at those speeds, but hey, it's my story, I'll tell it however I like. Yes, the 'busa did drop the hammer right before I backed out, and just walked away... However, when we got to where we were going, when the rest of the group (600 class machines) finally got there, one guy yelled "Busas and V-twins to the back!" I was bike 4 behind two busas and an RC (SP2 to you folks). Had time to smoke a fag before bike 5 rolled in...

I really have no idea of my fastest, I'm not a speed merchant really..
I do remember laying flat on the NS, full chat in top, going downhill and over the viaduct in Namur. Everything was too blurry to read. The rush, vibration and noise felt like I was doing about warp4, in reality about 130
Fastest escape though, I remember that well.. about 12 years ago.
On the aforementioned NS, along Embankment in London, going to Chelsea bridge. 3 CBR600's VFR and me, hmm.. making progress.. Saw copper number 1, too late, copper number 2 stepped out from behind a tree and hairdryered the lead bike at 95. We got a right rollocking, then sent on our way. One of the group was pouting a bit, he had just started at Hendon training school and could see his career washed away before he even started.
We behaved that night.

Had an indicated 160 on Dottinger Hohe on the Nurburgring with a +2 teeth rear sprocket
Didn't feel like anything
The scariest was on my old ZZR600
Going up the Alcester road towards Brum with a broken speedo cable I noticed the bike revving to 13,000rpm
A few days later after fixing the cable I was up there again. Glanced down to see it doing 13,000 again and thought "Ooh, I wonder how fast that is then?"
However, I should have looked up before looking across at the speedo coz by the time I'd lifted my gaze back to the road I'd started on the curved part and had drifted from the outside lane to about 2feet from the left kerb.
Clench of seat, big shove on right bar and I avoided the kerb and subsequent 10 foot drop by a gnats
But I survived it and learnt a valuable lesson

Blimey, hope that Mille computer has a quick reset button, get pulled by the plod and it could be an admission to guiltVTR1000KAZ wrote:
I intend to have a go with my Mille too......and I don't have to watch the clock on it either.....there is a computer on board that registers your top speed!

Must admit on the very few(one

Hopefully soon I can take the 'Storm round there one day when i'm rich again and see what it does.I think like Kaz says,ya have to keep a track of your gears as i've done it more than once when the bike has been pulling great and all of a sudden the limiter cuts in
