Desk Top PC monitors?
What monitor are you all using for you desktop pc's? LED, LCD, IPS, and HD etc.
I'm looking into going for a better one than I have now, probably something around the 24" size. As I will be upgrading to make better use of Photoshop I need to be looking for a resolution of 1920 X 1200. That limit's things slightly as it now seems monitors are going for a resolution of 1920 X 1080, although Dell are still turning these out in various levels of quality. I will also need HDMI input

What's your price limit? I'd recomment SCAN for anything hardware related, although pcpartpicker are pretty good too, and can probably save you a couple of quid

I've two Formac TFT Gallery 2010 AU Displays 1600x1200 side-by-side
The advantage is I have one monitor when using Quark / Photoshop for the layout /image and in the other all the palettes.
Then when I have the PC on I can have one monitor for that and the other for the mac simultaneously , and with a KVM switch I can bounce between the two systems as needed.

Wow that was quick
Many thanks guys for the info, just what I need. Keep 'um coming
Virt, I haven't decided on my exact budget yet. That will depend on if I go for brand new or used, but it'll be lower end as in a couple of hundred give or take a few pounds.
Wicky, your set-up sounds Ace
Chris.

I use an old Formac TFT Gallery 2010 as well. Another one that is worth considering, especially in the PC market is the NEC Multisync's. They have a good reputation with good build and screen quality. Some of them swivel horizontally which is handy if you working on, say, an A4 letter. Also some come with HDMI's.

I was considering a couple of these myself once.

The strange thing is I had been admiring a 55" Samsung 3D TV in there, the only thing I didn't like was the price, still just under £1800 in the sale.
Thanks Carl and Playerone for your help too

Re: Desk Top PC monitors?
I wouldn't go near a Samsung with a barge pole. When LCD TV's first came onto the market the Samsung TV's used to be great, won lots of awards and lots of people bought them. They seemed to be the market leader at the time with reasonable price and build quality. They have gone downhill over the years back to their usual status in the market.
Even LG have gone downhill over the years. I remember when you could not walk into a pub/bar without them having a 40 inch LG flat screen on the wall with Sky sports on. Even LG have gone down hill a bit. I bought a newer model LG TV a few years back with a built in DVR and I wish I hadn't now. Screen quality is not that good and as far as build, well it's a Black shiny plastic that just looks cheap and attracts lots of dust. My own fault for rushing into things and not researching properly beforehand, and for trying to keep on top of the So called latest and greatest tech.
With regards to computer monitors Apple use LG for all their screens and there has been numerous problems with Apple screens/monitors over the years.
If I had a choice of buying a new TV today I would buy a Panasonic or Sony, most probably the Panasonic as I think it has the edge over Sony with looks and picture quality. I would also not go near the 3D. The 3D thing is too new and we don't know how stable that market is going to be or the health risks involved with it as of yet. I'm still waiting for a Princess Leia, Star Wars style hologram 3D TV

Something like this...
I've got a LG HD telly which if needed could double up as a very good monitor. Only problem with it was out of the box the sound quality wasn't as good as I was used to from old CRT - so I added home surround sound system.

Don't worry guys I was not intending to buy the 55" Samsung 3D TV
Back to the monitor, is it possible not to use the built in speakers that some monitors have? as I have a 2.1 superwoofer sound system that I'll want to carry on using.
Chris.
