if the main fuse has gone it most likely will be the reg, dont restart the bike as your either likely to blow the fuse again or the reg will take out more electrical bits and bobs as its chucking out maybe 23v which what was happening to mine, I was lucky really but some have had a load of electrical burn outs, lights, dash display, etc, if I was you change the reg then test it before you do more damage. I can send you a guaranteed working replacement reg which is although an old one it works perfectly, use this to check and send it back once your done, up to you. PM me if you need it.

All sorted! It appears my rr has indeed failed, battery was as dead as a dodo! So what rr's do you guys replace the standard one with? I was thinking a more modern vtr but it seems people fit them off all sorts. Any suggestions? Fuses were all ok though so think the rest of the loom should be ok?

And thanks to everyone that helped! :D

See the link I posted earlier

Be prepared to get another battery if the flat one got damaged when your R/R failed.

i've got the 125 varadero reg/rec fitted...the plugs and bolt holes are the same so it's a quick and easy swap...most go for the R1 though..

before you get another battery stick it on an optimate 3/4 give it a couple of sequences of charging 2 x 48 hours they are good at bringing them back to life with the desulfication thingywotsit.

OK so charged the battery and replaced the rr with one off a cbr125 off ebay, and all seemed fine.
Then riding home tonight there was a bang and a dramatic loss in power. The bike didnt cut out but it wanted too, it sounds like somethings catching somewhere (like a metallic bang every rev). The noise sounds like its coming from the starter area. I tried to take the starter off to have a look but the nuts corroded to hell and isnt coming off without an angle grinder! Felt like it was running on one cylinder.
Help Pleasee! :sad2 :sad2

Sounds like the front CCT - Don't try and start it! Have you replaced the OEM CCTs?

No original ccts still fitted but previous owner said stopper mod has been done. have manuals waiting to go in! :sad2 Would it still run if the front cylinder cct went?

Dave. My experience is just from bad experience but I had a coil fail on me last year which gave me only one cylinder to drive the bike- felt awful! It was the rear one that went on mine (rear right of seat).

I wonder if a coil might have been killed by your R/R failure?

I chose to replace both my coils with CBR600RR stick coils. Now works a treat. Just a thought. Though I guess it feels like if its not one thing it's another!? Good luck. Griff.

Yeah coils were the first thing that came to mind because of the rr problems, but the noise is telling me otherwise. I have a bad feeling the previous owner lied to me and its a failed cct. :sad2

The stopper mod doesn't stop CCT failure but allows you to get home as the chain will not jump the timing sprockets. Time to fit the manuals and thank the PO for the foresight to saving you a big expense. The workshop knowledgebase has a how-to for installing manuals. Hopefully once that's done you'll have addressed the two major weak points of the bike.
