One hot & one cold cylinder

Post by denisblackvtr »

Can anyone tell me is it normal for the right hand exhaust to run cooler than the left one on tickover? Once the throttle is blipped they seem to be the same temp. Thanks in advance. Denis. :confused

the standard exhaust headers favour the lhs at low rpm
its only when the pressure in the exhaust is increased but the engine picking up revs that it pushes more exhaust gasses out the rhs exhaust ,

Thanks for that Lloydie, was a bit concerned but there was no smoke so thought (hopefully) there would be a simple answer.

+1 on what Lloydie said. It's totally normal. I think the restricor plate thing in the end of the header pipe has something to do with it as well, so as revs are picked up more pressure pushes past the restrictor and out the right can

You'll also get more condensation on startup from the LHS because any condensate will collect on that side due to the bike leaning that way towards the sidestand.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I had a gl1000 mark 1 goldwing that did this the left hand pipe used to rot cos all the water used to sit in there,
She told me she was 16.
