Carb Balancer Prob.

Post by darrenmartin »

 Hi all,
Iv just tried to balance my carbs up using the "ball Bearing" type ballancer that AMCQ did his write up on.
However once the enginge was running a very small amount of (im sure its oil) ended up working its way up the vacum tube from the Front cylinder and interfeared with the free movment of the Lower Bearing :problem:
Any ideas as to why this would happen and how to stop it happening again
Any help as ever would be greatly recived. Many thanks

That's an interesting one. I will have to think about this. Are you sure it's oil and not fuel. Fuel could get into the vacuum system if you have a dodgy petcock diaphragm. But you say it's from the front cylinder. Mmmm

It can only be fuel. It condenses and collects in the downwaard-sloping tubular airway that runs from the inlet tract beneath the carb to the balancer take-off point.
To avoid this, only balance when the engine is hot, and the choke's off.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Argh Thanks for clearing that up Tony. I was trying to work out the connection for fuel on the front cylinder, but what you say makes perfect sense. A carb sync should only be done on a engine that has been brought up to running temp anyway for accuracy.

dont start it with gauges on, go and warm it up around the block a few times first.
