Manual cam chain tensioners.

Post by bigtwinthing »

everyone has told me to get these!!!, do they just push against the tensioner arm? in the photo,s they appear to push on a machined part of the chain guidearm and move them in to tension the chain. I have seem some with a domed nut on the screw thread, is this bit lock tighted on?
I have also seem the type with a 1 piece screw are these better? any advise please guys as i dont want to be looking for a new engine any time soon.

They push on the cam chain tensioner guide, There are two types the Honda autos which are prone to failing. They have a small nut on the end. There a good pic what they look like in the workshop manual under the Cylinder head removal page 8-7. Then you have manual tensioners as in my pic below. They have two nuts on the thread. One lower down that locks off and one on the end that remains solid and is there to make it easy to turn for adjustment reasons.

I haven't got any pics of the Auto ones but they look totally different from manuals unless they have been converted. Basically if you have a long thread coming out the end you have manuals or Honda auto ones that have been converted to manual. Please not these Honda auto ones have been converted to manual, this is not a stop mod.

The domed nut you speak off IIRC is on the Kreiger ones and is on the end and is solid, so does not spin and is there to put a spanner on and adjust tension.
