just not right ????

Post by Diabolus »

you all know your bikes and notice the slightest thing, well since recent works sub frame re-spray ,valve check, service and carb balance my bike has developed a sort of (hard to explain) miss fire/ stutter whilst accelerating when hitting bumps. + when i put the bike away it stinks of a plasticy/rubber melting/ petrol smell (never used to smell).
I havent lost any mpg and it pulls fine just this strange hessitancy when on the power and going over bumps ?????
I ve checked for loose connections etc....... but all seems fine :?:

Airbox not seated properly ? and/or hoses from underneath the box not connected properly ?

Burning smell could be and overflow pipe on the rear header after replacing the tank.

Is your fairing lower melting a bit at the rear right hand side. The exhaust runs very close on them. You may also want to check the drain/breather pipes that run down from the tank are not rubbing up against something hot lower down as well.

Mine sometimes gets a hot, heat and plasticy rubbery smell from time to time after long runs and heavy traffic. Not always, just now and again. I have investigated and can't find anything so decided it's nothing to worry about and just a general heat build up. When I first put the fairing lower on ages ago, I noticed this more. The larger lowers defo retain the heat more. I've also caught the heel of my boot on the exhaust which has burnt a bit which smells as it burns residue on the exhaust :eek2 . Just something to be aware off and rule out.

As for the stutter, stumble, and petrol smell, +1 on the airbox. And if the carbs have been off at all, check the carbs and rubbers are on and seated securely.

The smell might be the salt of the road burning on the exhaust .

Is it the Reg / rectifier touching the plastics after having the back end off? Or the Battery earth not on new paint ?

just had a quick look
hose #29 was not conected and resting ontop of the cam cover  so that may explain the smelly bike issue.

Good find - as that's a breather/tank overflow pipe - with the possibly with petrol slopping about from around the filler cap area getting routed onto the top of the engine :eek2

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

that should solve my stinky bike issue.

just the bump induced stutter to sort???

when i fitted tubing for my carb balance gauges i just joined them together with a bit of brass pipe instead of pluging ends with bolt or golf tee, my way would'nt cause a problem would it ???

Here's mine run up to behind the battery.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea joining the two together. There's a reason Honda only have one vacuum. Also having them joined together like that is going to have each cylinder conflicting with each other. If your going to join them like that then put something in the middle of the brass tube, so your basically capping each side off.

Agree.
Use a section of solid rod, or a bit of studding with the threads sealed with silicon sealer.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I spent yesterday checking everything, air box was fine, checked carb balance and ive capped off the vac tubes. took it on the bumpiest roads i know and it ran like a pig  im thinking this is coil/ cap related as this bike was suffering from r/r failure when i got it and it wouldnt have been doing the coils any good. could do with a set of good working coils to try if someone could come over (or i ride to you) who has plugtop coils and swap them over to try.
