100% blade. I'm biased because I just bought that exact model, but the build quality is second to none with Honda and it won't corrode on you like a Suzuki. Get caught in the rain and the paint will peel like an orange :-) lol probably not really, but they do corrode worse than other bikes.

The power on that bike is insane. Really. Just go test drive one. Or come ride mine.

The gixxer may be slightly more insane, but really, unless you're on a track are you ever going to notice?

yeh you wont notice unless your in 6th gear ringing its neck flat out i would have thought, both will be very strong both road and track

ive used the RR3 lots and had a go on an RR4 but never had a go on that K5-K6 Model gixxer


Im starting to fall more for the gixxer, only thing concerning me with the blade is the corrosion worries, for years ive read stories that the RR6-RR7 is horrible when salt gets at it, they made something think it was the pan where two metals that react with each other when salt is thrown in the mix... or along those lines

Also remember that any modern bike will, by far, outperform the rider. Sure, the GSXR may be a mad bike but it means you're even further from pushing it to it's very limits than you would be on a blade. Personally it's about more than the speed and style, but about how much you can get from the bike. That's why I do in some ways enjoy my 33bhp restrictor, I know I can take my bike to its' limits the way it is and because it should have much more power than that by default it is still handles incredibly whenever I choose to do so

Mate both bikes limits are off limits on the road, I'm not after either because one is faster than the other

Its few and far between i've rung the neck of the Firestorm, certainly not after getting sh1t up with the court appearance that slowed me right down

For me the are both the best looking bikes of the mid 2000's i just cant make up my mind, i think the Suzuki will age better with its flowing tear drop body work

but i love the rear end of the blade and the under-seats,

I want a bike that will do the mileage i need it to do well, and cope with a few track days too, trips abroad and some two up etc


Another deciding factor is my Red Alpinestars leathers i got last year might look a tw@ on a blue bike lol, think ill have to sell these plus i think im to fat for them now...

It seems to me that motorcycles are like computers or anything else in society. The later something is the tech is better, but build quality is worse than the older stuff. It's just manufacturers cutting corners and releasing things before their time to make money and compete against their rivals. There is no such thing as a bike without problems/faults it's just deciding which is the better of the two evils.

I will check mine and post photos mate, but im pretty sure it isnt doing this.

I suppose the answer would be to not drive it once the roads have been salted.

Will add photos later today, but at just over 10k miles, ill be really disappointed if mine has this. Am a bit worried since one with 700 miles has the corrosion.

Go for the gixxer, I had a 750 in 2007 which I had the wheels powder coated White (they were Black as standard or Blue on the 600's) I loved it, it had a brilliant engine and was not that badly made.

This is mine:

It doesnt look mint, but im 99% sure it was when I bought it, I got caught in a little bit of rain on the way home and the last mile of the road to my house is extremely muddy. There is 0 oil anywhere around or on the sump.

The sump is easily visible with the fairing fitted by the way, so when you go to look at them, get on your hands and knees and check it out.

Having owned both, My opinion would be get the K5, fantastic engine. The rr6/rr7 are dam good bikes as well, but if your looking for that extra excitement then it can only be the K5. Also check that the gixxer has had the recall work done on the frame(bracing).

What you was saying about the sump on the rr is correct, my rr7 only had 8k on it, and it was heavily pitted, I ended up replacing the sump as it was only a matter of time before oil would have seeped out. New sump pan price from honda £140, not to bad.

Is there anything you can do with that sump to protect it? I wonder if spraying something on it to protect it will help, or if a protective plate can be made to be fit over it?

it is a bit of a shocker ain't it that for a Honda, i've read over the years it lots its quality after the Tadao Baba years and wasn't until 08 they got it back on track, but personally i don't like the 08 onwards looks

i would just spray its underside down daily with 3 in 1 or GT85 after every day it went through rain or i expected rain

that's what i did with the firestorm and its engine looks mint after a wash

Yeah get one with a better exhaust than that, it looks way too big

But the bike looks nice.

Shame it's at dealer prices. Keep your eyes out for a private one, whichever you go for. Someone somewhere will be desperate to sell one, and you will pick up a bargain.

Just look at dealer prices for the CBR 2006-2007 (and even the 2004-5 version) and you will see loads of them around £5k - £6k.

Now look at the one I bought, totally MINT, loads of extras, low mileage (10k) and only £4500.

If you dont rush into it, you will save a lot of money, at least enough to replace the red leathers you bought
