the years i got them i aint sure so will just list bikes from the start , from what my drug n drink induced mind can recall -
Yamaha ty50
Honda xl185
Suzuki gt380
Suzuki gs425
Honda ft500
kawasaki gt750
Suzuki ts250
Yamaha sr500
Suzuki gt750
Kawasaki zx10
Kawasaki zxr750
Kawasaki zx10
Kawasaki zxr900
Triumph tiger 900
Honda vtr 1000
yup think thats it , nice steady progression there i think you'll agree , i never sat my car test till i was 25 and even then it was only because of constant nagging to get it , used the bike all year round , will always remember trying and succeding to get home in some major snow on the kawa gt750 , having to get the bike side on to get the rear spinning against the kerb for traction and god knows how many attempts before getting up hill to garage ,
the kettle was wicked and evil as hell ,had full dunstall kit fairing an seat n tank unit rear sets n a set of microns that you could hear for miles which wasn't so good for the neighbours as i left for work at 5am back then.
DOES THIS RAG SMELL LIKE CHLOROFORM TO YOU ?

Im probably what you guys would class as one of the newer riders going straight to bigger bikes, but, I personally dont think im that bad on the road. Some of you ive met may disagree

I started on a scooter when I was 16
1999 - Peugeot speedfight 50cc
2000 - Honda NSR 125

Then I went on to a car whilst I was at university, didnt get another bike until
2008 - passed my test and got Honda CBR600F (still the favourite of the bikes ive had)
2009 - Yamaha R1 (5PW type)
2011 - Honda VTR
2013 - Honda Fireblade

I hadn't really thought till I just wrote that, over 50% of my bikes have been Honda :D

I wonder if this change in culture, especially the leaping onto a big bike from the start, is why it's necessary nowadays to have such strict licensing laws.

Does this bother you that much

If they can pass the relevant test then they ride can what the hell they want when they want.
A nob head will be a nob head regardless of engine capacity 125 - 250 - 400 - 500 - 600 - 750 - 1000 etc etc

Its a safer and clever option to use a car when its senseable to do so, if you have access to a car and its sh1t out side cold and icy why would you take the bike... its not fun, its not warm, and its never going to have the same grip or stopping potential as a car in poor conditions, plus you don't have the added hassle of a misting visor

If i could drive i would stop being a Richard head and using the bike when its dodgy,

You might be riding appropriately for the conditions taking it easy on your bike but who's to say an idiot in a 4x4 on the phone is, if they loose control on the ice and hit you, you're brown bread mate or bloody close to it.

Plus my dads 60 i think or late 50's and he's had both cars and bike all his life, he only uses the bike now when its a nice day, personally i wish i could do the same as this is the only time its enjoyable any one that says different must be kidding there self or never travelled in car.

The only exception i can think of to that rule is enduro bike, they are great fun no matter what's going on, a green lane blast ice or rain is still a great green lane blast and your not worrying about some silly car pulling out

I don't think it's anything to do with owning a car. In fact I think it's the complete opposite. Running a car and Insurance for youngsters is a killer on the pocket these days. So there is now and increase of bikes/scooters because of this, plus the increase of sitting in traffic with a car. With the increase of of bikes/scooters being a main form of transport combined with more vehicles on the road there are more deaths. The change in licensing laws in an attempt of lowering the death rate at the same time as making more money out of people.

Oh, god, years of buying an abusing innocent machinery laid bare...
A mobylette, year and model unknown.
A three-speed moped with a hand-change- like a scooter's new, but make unremembered EDIT: Casal
Honda CB250 G5 stripped, lightened, tuned and turned into a cafe-racer
Triumph Trident, one of the first 100 built, ray-gun pipes, the triumph version of the BSA Rocket Three. Brakes- appalling, heavy, but a cb750 beater, if ridden with attitude.
Many CB125's, about 6, bought, thrashed, rebuilt, thrashed again, rallied, so high mileage, nearly the unkillable bike.
Triumph Bonneville, only kept it for 6 weeks before it was stolen.
Honda CB550, bought as it had killed its rider, who'd gone through a plate glass window, apparently. New forks, a bit of tidying, not too bad.
Triumph 500 with a sidecar, took the sidecar off after discovering that it wouldn't pull the chair very well with high comp pistons fitted....then found that square profile Avon Speedmasters didn't grip much.
Honda SL125, bought with the fiancees engagement ring money- still got this one, less than 7000 miles.
Honda Hornet, bought new, ragged to 30,000 miles plus in three years, then sold.
Honda NTV, shaft drive, good fun, solid, but capable of being ridden down country lanes flat out in top- can't do that with the current one.....
Honda Firestorm. Morphed into a VTR1000 special, as there's not much left standard now.
And a few cars, nothing noteworthy except a couple of Renault 21 turbos- off the road more time than they were on it- but fun when they ran.

Suzuki TS125 -72 -old, ugly but lots of fun in the forests nearby.
Honda NS 125 F - the best small bike ever made, crashed point blank to a car. ouch!
Honda NSR 125 -91 Bad big brother for the previous one. But it had a "feature" of killing the pistons.
Honda CX500 C -81 Sideways v-twin. Reliable as hell. Drove 50 000km with broken cam chain tensioner without problems.
Honda CB900 Boldor - somewhat a bike without any character. Expect constant oil leak what drove me mad.
Honda CB600 Hornet - Sweet reliable ride. Fast black of course.
Honda VTR 1000 - "the broken unit". Bits and pieces for the moment, but it shall rise again like a phoenix from the ash!

:cool2
- Hey, get out of that tincan you call a car
'Coz that old thing wont get you far
Don't take a bus and don't grab a cab
'Coz I got a thing that'll drive you mad -

I guess you could call me old school then having only the bike mate, if finances was different and I could turn back the clock I wouldn't have spent every penny on motocross and would have got a driving licence and car. wombles these winters man they just seem to drag on and on and on urgh
