cct's

Post by scouse645 »

Hi all, having sorted the R/R mod i have now sent for the CCT,s from krieger in the US, hope they will be delivered in a few weeks, i was informed on this forum that they are well made, my problem is i am not mechanically minded enough to do that job, i know many have said there easy to do but i'm not confident of doing it right, is there someone on the forum i can come to to do this job? obviously i would pay the required rate for that work, thanks for any help. :?

They are not hard to do, just need to pay attention to what you are doing. I could do them but I have only ever helped to do mine as I was helped by another forum member. If someone else on here would do them and has done them before by all means they can do them rather than me. It is up to you. If you would like me to do them then let me know.

I am Leicestershire so not far away. Do you know if your generator caps come off? The ones on the left hand side of the engine, one big one and one small. They can become the biggest job trying to get them out.

Thanks m8, i will have to have a look at the generator caps as only had this bike since october and not done much yet, only the R/R mod, i presume they have to come off to do the job? i will wait and see if someone else fancies doing them, but as you have seen it done thats more than me, probably be a few weeks until i get them anyway, will let you know, thanks.

Yes they both have to come off. The small one is for the timing marks and the big one is so you can turn the engine over on the flywheel bolt. I have to admit I have to do the R/R mod. Had the bike about 8months and still not done it 8O  Done the CCT's, had it repainted and several other mods but not that one

The Workshop Knowledgebase > How to remove and refit CCT's on the Firestorm > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=8326
(6) Remove the two caps from the alternator housing (left-hand side of bike when sitting on it) be very careful removing the center one as it's made of very soft material.
Only take a few hours to replace CCTs with manuals if you work through it methodically - no special tools required.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
