Post by mart3442 »

so best to go semi synthetic

I've tried fully a few times over the years each time it's caused the clutch to slip under hard load, say launched from the lights.... Even tried it after I fitted street Racing Clutch and Springs and it still did it, changed back to Castrol 10W 30 Semi the next day never had any clutch slipping issues using the correct oil type for the bike

If honda waned you to put fully in they would have said so imo, as it is it they recommend you use semi and they know what works best

Changed the oil in mine two weeks ago. Don't know what the black stuff in there was but I replaced it with Castrol 10w40 Power 1 Synthetic (same as I use in my CBR600 F2). No issues whatsoever......

honda recommend. 10 40w not 10 30w atb
I suppose that would depend on what time of year it is then.

your right.it,s about tempreture. or climate
the colder the climate. thinner the oil. hotter thicker the oil

you sound like my wombles old man with the "leave the exhausts alone" stuff

If honda had the money for research/design on every last inch of your bike to make it as racey as possible, your "everyday" bike wouldnt have a very "everyday" price tag at the dealership anymore

Also they have certain regulations etc they have to pass on exhausts and so on

I was referring to the type not the viscosity mate.

10w30 is appropriate for our climate

I'm one of those 'gays' that spent time modifying the bike over the years but when it comes to what oil type of firmly believe they knew best

i think you misunderstand me. it was said tounge in cheek.
i'am all for moded storm's (take a look at my bike in workshop)
the point i was trying to make, was just because honda recommends 10 40w oil
(not even semi synthetic). it don't meen to say you can't use a different oil
HONDA (quote) 4 stroke oil. or equivalent motor oil, of spec's SE SF SG.
fully synthetic meet's all these spec's
yes honda has to meet, noise and emission reg's
but that's no excuse for crap CCT'S R&R and SUSPENSION (the storm's wern't that cheap when thay came out)
by the way .honda's been making a racey bike since 1992 called a fireblade atb

Pretty much every Honda I've owned thats been '90's onwards has had the stcking tensioner issue, I always change them for manual jobs.
On the issue of Oil, my mate (a trained Honda mechanic) swore by Castrol oils for Honda engines. We always took this with a pinch of salt until a lad came into the workshop with an immaculate 1992 Blade.
A very well looked after bike but the engine was sounding like a bag of spanners. The poor lad was almost in tears, he'd had it almost from new and it was obviously his pride and joy. Turns out he always did his own Oil and filter changes and had bought 4 litres of Silkolene for the latest oil change. He told my mate he'd always used castrol up to that point, but as this had been on special offer he bought it. My mates advice was drop the oil and put Castrol in the bike.....This was done and the problem was solved, go figure.....
