sticky throttle tube

Post by Jazzscot »

I have went back to stock clip ons and have fitted the throttle tube onto these. It turns without a problem but does not return immediately. I have put a touch of Vaseline inside the throttle tube which helps a little and also inside where the cables connect to the white plastic quarter turn thingy.

I'm guessing the cables could do with a bit of a lube too.

Question is how do you loob yours?

These work quite well Jazz -

That's just an example, I got mine from a bike shop years ago and I am sure there are British suppliers around.
From your description though it sounds like one of the cables might be pinched in the housing

When its not fitted on the bike it snaps back no problem at all. I'm just wondering if these were longer cables to allow them to fit my comfort kit.

I just had this with marty's. Take the top cap of the by the cable, throttle tube end and spray some lube down into the cables and twist the throttle back and forth to work it's way in. I then normally put a blob of grease in the cap before putting back on as this works it's way over time. Also make sure that the bar end weight is not rubbing on the outer rubber of the grip. If it is, then either slide the grip down a bit (if poss) or spray a bit of lube around the edge where it rubbing. Just try not to get lube under the grip or it may start slipping around.

The problem will be that there is not enough slack in the cable, try backing off the adjuster and it should snap back as normal.

Or you have a Bent clip on

Before bed last night I took the tube off of the clip on and poured some 3 in 1 oil down each cable. Used a bungee chord connected to the garage roof to hold the cables vertical. Gravity did the job overnight as when I refitted today the throttle snaps back beautifully .

Cheers for the input guys.

I'm sorry, but this is far too homoerotic for viewing before the watershed.
I shall look again after 21.00.
