Fuel Tank
Fuel Tank
As i have not removed the petrol tank yet i am trying to familiarise myself with it, i can see there is a bolt at the seat end to undo, the steering end has two bolts, i presume they have to come off also, the problem is mine has a steering damper connected to those two bolts, am i ok to just undo them? thanks for any help.
Re: Fuel Tank
yes two 8mm bolts at the headstock end and a 10mm at the other end. Take care and some pics for reference of all the hoses and pipework connecting the tank. Mark em as you go as inadvertently relocating them the wrong way on reassembly can ruin your day. Don't forget to unplug the fuel sensor.

Re: Fuel Tank
Thanks, is the fuel sensor the only wire that goes underneath the tank?
Re: Fuel Tank
Two 8mm at the front, one 10 mm at the rear, two fuel hoses a vaccum, breather, overflow and the electrical wire. That's you lot.

Re: Fuel Tank
yea, just the one cable to the sensor, then 3 hoses..then its clear.
Re: Fuel Tank
cheers all, i was just a bit concerned about the damper, will springs fly everywhere when i undo it?
Re: Fuel Tank
What type of steering damper is it and how it attached. Maybe a pic would help. But I would have thought it would be OK. I cant see why springs would be put on the mounting bolts.

]i'm on the case now, many thanks.http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p78 ... c25f78.jpg i think i have done it, i hope, its a miracle for me anyway.
Re: Fuel Tank
OK cool it's a Hyperpro. There's no springs or anything there, it's just using the tank to mount off. If you undo the two hex head bolts and the rear 10 mm then you could lift the rear of the tank up and pull it forward a bit from under the steering damper. That should save you undoing the main mounting bracket on top.

Re: Fuel Tank
ok thanks for your help on that, think i'm getting there now.
Re: Fuel Tank
OH another thing to remember from 2002 on (the larger tank version) there is no fuel shutoff valve. You will either need to pinch the fuel line or remove the diaphragm unit with the tank.
