Rubber nuts

Post by Miztaziggy »

Why do Honda think it's a good idea to fasten fairings together with rubber wombles nuts with those little brass threads inside them that just perish and then spin when you try to turn the allen key bolt?

Why Honda?

Had a nightmare when I tried to take the fairings off Sarah's CBR 600 to change the oil filter, one of the little wombles wouldn't come out, so had to grip it with mole grips behind the fairing before it would turn. Ended up ripping the brass thread straight out of the rubber thing anyway so that's wombles now.

And today, trying to take off my fairing to get to the data link connector thingy, one of the little wombles just started spinning, so again, had to try and grab it with mole grips, and again the brass thread ripped straight out of the rubber housing. What a shite design. Looked online for the rubber things from Honda but all I can find is the screen fixing nuts in packs of 10, so im just going to try and find a metal nut now to suit so that the fairing holds.

Honda, wombles your rubber nuts!

I'm sure manufactures use things that are designed to break so one has to buy new ones. It's bloody stupid. But it does give one the opportunity to come up with something better so you can feel smarter than Honda and stick two fingers up at them.

I changed mine to SS bolts & nice large flat washers. You dont have to use those parts, I do believe they are pretty standard for most fairings.

A smear of Copperslip grease on the threads, no more trouble probably for the life of the bike.I can't bring myself to put any nut or bolt back on anything without it. :biggrin
