16l tank fuel economy?

Post by gissmo50 »

Probably been asked 100 times b4 if so sorry,

So I have a 16l tank k and n filter and high rise art cans 190 dyno jet mains and 48 piolts not sure on the needle clip settings.

So around town I'm getting just over 60miles to the light and longer runs I get 90-100 miles is that about normal for the smaller tank

Really wish I could find a 19l tank for a sensible price that isn't battered, missed out one recently through lack of funds.

No, that isn't typical for a standard bike, but if you've had different jets and K&N, who knows? Sounds way out to me though. Mine is standard save for Scorpion cans and I get around 110-115 to reserve with normal riding and about 100 to reserve when ragging it.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

1.Do you fill up sitting on the bike ?
2. Do you ever change gear in town?
3.have you had it on a dyno ?

I get 100 to the light round town
And 80-90 on a run

Previous owner had it on a dyno, always filled standing up. And I ride in the gear the bike is most comfortable so I'm not laboring the motor. I've always thought it was rich but have nothing to compare it with

I've a '97 with K&N and Moriwaki cans - 70-80 on the thrash / urban riding. Mix of A & B roads 90 taking it very carefully - Dual Carriageway/Motorway 100-110.

as above.

only ever dropped below 100 when on a trackday [75miles to the light :D ], so there is something wrong with the fueling on small throttle openings

I think 190 mains are too big. I wonder if you have the extra slide hole drilled for the needle slide as well. This would bring the carbs onto the slides too soon. 60 miles a tank is bad. I thought mine was bad with 80-90 miles a tank and that's abusing the throttle around town. :eek2

Wicky,
I would worry about yours as well.........I can get over 100 when thrashing on A roads, and that is with a quick action throttle which means I am hitting the end stop when I am accelerating :D

With 190 DJ and 50 pilots, and a Yoshimura System and Pipercross race filter I was still getting around 90-100mpg with town use

Down the motorway not twatting it I would see about 110 or more before ref light

This was with a 16ltr tank

So something is wrong on your machine mate

I would think the hole is there and 60isnt as low as its gone Ive had it below 50 when going for it...

Will take the carbs off at the weekend and have a look can I just block the hole off again or is it new slides jobby

you can plug the hole with epoxy resisn,

but I stil have the extra hole open on mine, so I would see it as a tuning solution for your set up, not an instant root cause for your current problem

will give it a go and see what happens, failing that will have to go back on a dyno to see whats happening with it i will say that its very very sooty around the exhaust outlets.

check that no fuel is leaking from the petcock, iirc i'd get 80 to 100 before the light comes on, in town you can take at least 10 off of that figure.
