Semi or synthetic oil?

I agree with Tony etc that fully synthetic (and I mean fully synthetic are to be used in modern Hondas) I think it is like after 2004 they use Sikolene Comp 4 fully esther based. I know this has my CBF 125 used this and even checked to make sure that I was not mixing and matching oils when changing oil. The CBF munched oil as it only held 900ml oil and that was worked (well it was silver after all !!!)

Most fully synthetic oils are based in mineral oil, the only real difference between semi and this "fully" is the chemicals used. A proper synthetic oil should be esther based.

When I change the oil in the SV im using Mobile 1 bike semi synthetic.

because yesterday i did a service on my bike,useing comp 4 oil.
after an 80 mile run, of A-B road's, d/carriageway, and a few traffic light launce's.
happy to say NO CLUTCH SLIP.
motorcycle oil has come on leap's and bound's since honda launced the vtr.
i know that the oil, is the life blood of the engine, the pump's the heart, and the filter's the lung's - - -

you use what you think is best for you, and your bike. everyone to there own.
it may be the the guy's, who have had issue's with a slipping clutch, have a clutch problem, and not an oil issue.
BTW i don't think this is totally different. this is a debate about, semi or synthetic oil, so i think my reply was relevent ??? be also good to hear from the other 99 percent who have experianced this issue with synthetic oil. as it is at the moment, only appeare's to be you. and no disrespect fella, but from reading your post's. over the last few month's. your not what i,d call mister lucky. all the best

Silkoline comp4 is NOT a full syntheyic oil, it's a semi synthetic. You won't suffer clutch slip with it. Pro4 is the fully synthetic stuff.
I don't use Fully synthetic in my bikes or the bikes i service (unless the owner specifically asks for it), some bikes have been known to suffer clutch slip, Early millie's even suffered clutch slip on high quality semi, but apart from that modern semi's meet all the requirements most bike engines need.

DON'T know why some vtr's suffer with fully synthetic, and other.s don't
all i know is, i'v been useing fully synthetic, in both my vtr's for about 8 year's with no clutch issue's

So this is most probably the reason you haven't been having clutch slip issues as you was in fact putting in a semi-synthetic and not a fully synthetic

hi, your right synthetic oil is ester based.
silkolene comp 4,is an ester based synthetic oil.
synthetic oil ,is a mineral oil that has been 100% modified with chemical's.
it is not as some people, believe, a semi synthetic.oil.
fully synthetic oil, is what the name inply's.100% man made. f/synthetic.
synthetic oil,is called (synthetic )for LEGAL REASON'S. (because it start's out useing mineral oil as a base.)
synthetic,and fully synthetic oil's share the same surface protection property's -
and advavced oil additive's.
semi synthetic oil's do not include, the f/synthetic, and the synthetic oil's advanced additive's .

so no.im not useing semi synthetic.im useing, (as near as wombles is to swearing) fully synthetic oil.
not the same brand of, fully synthetic that i'v used over the year's.but fully synthetic, none the less.

Delvac (DIESEL Engine oil) is very popular around here. There is a huge oil thread on my local bike forum and many members sware it's the only oil they will ever put in their engines again. It's cheaper, because you can buy it in big containers. Apparently it makes the transmission ultrrrrra smooth too.
Delvac easily surpasses all the requirements that Honda has listed for our bikes. I haven't tried it yet myself.
I use Motul 5000 10W-40 and change it and the filter every 3000km's.

Q. : Hello,I have recently done an oil change on my cbr600fy 2001 and used your comp4 10w/40.I took it to a garage to be dyno'd after having new plugs,filter etc.The mechanic there told me the fully synthetic oil is not suitable for my bike and will cause problems one of them being glazing the pistons? Can you advise me please?

A. Neil: This sort of thing makes me annoyed! What SORT of synthetic is not suitable? There are several different sorts. Personally, I've never seen 'glazed' pistons (sometimes the fairy story is glazed or polished bores) in 35 years of looking. Anyway, Comp-4 isn't fully synthetic; (not that it would matter if it was) it is ester/hydrocracked/mineral based and very good at lubricating motorcycle engines and transmissions.
