Hi all!
Hi all!
Hi everyone, just bought my first storm after five years fancying one! ( good things come to those who wait ). Could someone please tell me a bit more about the CCT issues? Is there any warning that they are about to fail? If they do does it always end in carnage? Should I replace them for honda ones at a set mileage or manual ones ( what manual ones do you recommend and who supplies them ) what is the " stopper mod "? Appreciate any help

Re: Hi all!
Hello mate and welcome to the club. The only thing not to do is leave the CCT's and hope for the best. You can do the stopper mod and that gives you the security of knowing the timing chain won't leap the sprockets allowing devastation in the head. It retains the convenience of auto adjusting the tension on the cam chains but if the spring does fail you will still need to swap them out. The manuals once fitted maintain the tension as set and rely on the operator checking and adjusting as needed. I fitted my manuals the first week I bought the bike in Feb 2010 and haven't had to alter them since, so not really an issue.
You can get manuals from Bazza on here. He converts the Honda auto ones to manual operation. Specialist made ones are available from Krieger, Ape or Rider on a Storm (member on here).
Good luck with it whatever you choose.

Re: Hi all!
Welcome to the club. Kev has covered the CCT issue just fine. Do the stopper mod now( look inthe workshop knowledge section) and if in doubt post up here and someone will call you to talk you through it.

Re: Hi all!
And I will just chuck you some links.
CCT's can go at any time, it's a gamble!
Some links regarding the Cam Chain Tensioners (CCT's)
You can either go for the stop mod https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 31&t=19416
Which is the Honda auto CCT's that are converted to a fail safe. So when it does fail, it don't send the valves crashing.
Or
You go for the full manual conversion, your options are here
https://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopi ... 16&t=22720
Then with regards to fitting View Topic
