Little bit of your knowledge needed!

Post by BigDaz1982 »

Hi peeps, I was just wondering how do I tell if the CCT's have been replaced on my bike? is there an easy way to spot it? (As you can tell im not mechanically minded) also the model ive bought (99plate fx model) doe this model suffer with the R/R issues?

Thanks Daza

As for the CCT's i'm gonna have to allow someone else to answer that.

But yes, your bike will suffer from the unfinned R/R. It's the 2001 facelifted models and onwards that received the finned R/R

You can see the rear CCT here pointed out in red:

If it looks like this, then it's probably standard, or might have a stopper mod (but I wouldn't assume it has unless you can definitely see that little screw in the side):

If it looks like this, with the thread, it's a manual CCT:

Manual CCTs will have a large bolt with a locknut poking out

OEM Tensioner will look like this:

and the front cylinder one is hidden by frame, tank and airbox

Though if it has had the stopper failsafe mod done you wouldn't be able to tell with taking it apart. Also look carefully as bazza here converts OEM auto tensioners to fully manual tensioners by gutting the innards and putting a coach bolt t'up the middle.

As for R/R this is an early self-cooking unfinned version

If in doubt about any of these notorious components - replace pronto or risk inconvenient breakdowns with potentially expensive repairs,
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Not sure what the little grub screw is all about. :confused

Honda auto's that have had the failsafe stopper mod done will have a bit of 8mm bar inside the shaft to the right in the following pic behind the end cap.
