anyone used bike engine flush before?

Post by agentpineapple »

has anyone used it before, is it worth the money?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wurth-Motorbi ... 257d2e982f
as you guys might know i have a 15k engine waiting to go into my bike. its been sitting for at least 3yrs, it has oil in it, and i've had it running briefly before taking it out of a salvage bike. i was wondering if it would benefit from using this product.
i've never used it before, but i'd like to give it a go.
what do you guys reckon?

I just buy 2 oil filters and 4l of cheap car 10/40 and 4l of the good stuff .
Run the cheap stuff for 100-200 miles then change oil and filter .

+1 It would have to be hellish sludgie before I'd use that in an engine. They can start using oil as it can take carbon off where you don't want to.

Where would you want the carbon to be? There shouldn't be any in the sump/bearings etc anyway, only in the combustion areas.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

These sort of products are a bit like fuel additives/boosters. One never really knows for sure if they work or not, or whether there is a placebo effect from being talked into something from the marketing techniques used. I guess if you had some really old oil knocking around in the engine and it was looking a bit gunked up or previously had a blown head gasket or something and a load of water got mixed in with the oil, then running some through wouldn't do any harm. Who knows, maybe it could cause more damage if over used. It may have chemicals or something in it that if used enough would add more wear and tear to things like oil seals. Really in this day and age engine oils should contain all the necessary additives and cleaners that are required so there should be no need for these products. I would just change the oil and filter with a good quality oil and be done with it.

i was under the impression that with a car engine you fill from the top, but with the bike your filling from nearer the bottom than the top. so once you've added the flush, do you have to run the engine to get it to circulate and do its job?
would that mean taking a little of the old oil out, then adding the flush, then run the bike for a couple of mins before draining the bike completely?
i've never used this stuff before, and like most things i ain't got a clue....

Spend the money instead on colonic irrigation

Just do the extra oil & filter change

dont put it in, it will wash off anything inside your engine, just do a proper oil change, and if you can afford it change the oil filter after 100 miles or so.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

Marty, I wouldn't risk using it either, go for the extra oil change as the others have said

My biggest concern would be, how would you know if you've got all the engine flush out.

as the engine isn't in the bike, i can manoevre it around to make sure all the flush is out, but if i can get sub £20 oil and a cheap filter for a £5. that would be the way to go, i'm not suggesting i do this everytime i change the oil, but with this engine having been sitting for some time, i think its worth doing....

Not much point in doing it unless you run the engine to get all the oil circulating around.
