Cam chain
Cam chain
In middle of doing stopper mod,the lock key slipped through the tape so im guessing here, cut a bit of stud 10 mm to begin with and ive put cct back in, how much play should there be in the chain in rear cylinder, mines prety solid and im worried its to tight, theres about 2mm max when I push chain up & down
Re: Cam chain
Took the bracket off that sits round top of chain and measured, its 4mm of play
Re: Cam chain
Measuring the up and down movement on the cam chain between the cam sprockets is an idea, but the standard CCT works very different to a manual CCT, so the measurement will be different.
I would suggest you put the bracket back on (make sure you don't drop the side bolt down inside the engine, put a clean rag in the cam chain tunnel first just to be on the safe side). What you need to be doing is checking how far you can turn the CCT worm (with the locking key or small screwdriver clockwise as in the link below). Make sure you're doing this with the valve timing in the same position as I've posted in the stopper mod instructions. If you've got the stopper rod length right you will only be able to turn the worm 1/4 of a turn clockwise for the rear cylinder, a little bit more will be fine. If you've got the stopper rod to long you will not be able to turn the worm clockwise, in which case go through the process again, but this time make sure the tape stays on so the locking key doesn't jump out

Re: Cam chain
Was your guide I was following, trust me to balls it up, will ggetit sorted, thanks for the advice
Re: Cam chain
Did mine the other week and measured chain tension before I carried out the mod was around 5 mm,fitted inserts and rechecked the tensioner with screwdriver.
was just over quarter turn, rechecked the chain tension and got 5mm movement in chain, probably over the top but I like things to be correct when doing t/chains or belts

Re: Cam chain
That sounds goodSammyd wrote:Was your guide I was following, trust me to balls it up, will get it sorted, thanks for the advice

No harm in double checking. Just over a quarter of a turn of the CCT worm clockwise for the rear cylinder is goodcoinneach wrote:Did mine the other week and measured chain tension before I carried out the mod was around 5 mm,fitted inserts and rechecked the tensioner with screwdriver.

Re: Cam chain
And interestingly enough this is the same as with manuals, between 5 to 7mm, which is good. 7 to be on the safe side. Thanks for that little snippet of information I never new what tension the Honda CCT's where at. Nothing wrong with double checking things and being thorough. Especially when it comes to timing.chain tension and got 5mm movement in chain
