New Storm Rider
New Storm Rider
Hello All,
Bought my 'storm in March - 53 plate with 9k miles, blue. It has a CNC handlebar conversion (suits my back). I have just changed to K&N filter and Fuel exhausts, baffles still in to placate the neighbours!
Sounds much nicer now. Burbles and pops on the over run which is interesting but I wonder - are the changes safe for the motor or is rejetting needed? I know it's complicated but would appreciate any advice from those with similar mods.
Cheers, Harwell

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy the storm.
As to rejetting, you will definitely need to do it with the addition of a K&N filter.. As the storm engine is sensitive to airbox changes, from what I can gather. Not sure about the exhaust though, as some are plug and play while some aren't.
I can't advise you on what sort of jetting changes you need to do however, as my 'storm has those areas stock (for now) and doesn't really get ridden anyway so I have no idea. Carl or Wicky will no doubt be of use, when they turn up.. They'll feel their ears burning

Welcome aboard buddy
Where are you based?
Also, as you will find out as you look around the forum, the ccts and regulator are weak points and should be sorted as a matter of urgency

Thanks to all for the advice so far, been perusing and seeing what's best to get on with first.....
Storm Rider being a good porn star name, not sure I can live up that! The guy who owned my storm before me was a sign writer and designer so it has a 'FireStarter' logo on the fairing in place of the stock one. Will post pics soon.
I am based in the Canterbury area of the sunny Garden of England, ha ha!!

Welcome to the forum
Yes CCT's should be a priority as if they fail, and they do so without warning, which can cause expensive engine damage. As for jetting with the addition of a more free flowing filter it would benefit with being jetted to suit. Personally I would just stick to the standard filter, don't expect too much power gain from a K&N with a standard engine.
See the carb thread in my signature for more info.

Re: New Storm Rider
Welcome Harwell, too much popping, spitting and igniting and you may well be a firestarter
Re: New Storm Rider
Hi there & welcome.
The popping on the overrun will be the PAIR unit you machine will have. This device was added to improve emissions, It has no other useful function other than to add weight to the bike & can be easily removed as I did to my 02 model. Here is the link to how to do it.

Welcome and hello
Re: New Storm Rider
Thanks again to all for the advice and welcome comments. My bike is an F3 model, very blue, the colour is growing on me. My first v twin so getting used to the gearing and engine differences. Putting a smile on my face when I ride. Now to set about those changes....
