HELLO, JUST BOUGHT A VTR AND THERE IS I SLIGHT CRACKING NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END UNDER HEAVY BRAKING ,NOT SURE IF IT IS HEADSTOCK BEARINGS OR
WORN BUSHES IN FORKS ANY SUGGESTIONS ? THANKS

Clunky noise can be head bearings so begin there. And as the forks are a bit soft you might want to respring to suit and service them anyway while you're giving it an overhaul, replace bushes, oil, seals etc.

if you feel the clunk as soon as you hit the brakes then the head bearing need tightened. if the are knotchy then the will need replaced and you should use taper rollers, but if they are just slack then nip them up a bit and carry on

If you feel the clunk at the start when breaking then its head stock bearings
.
If the clunk is at the end of heavy breaking just before you come to a stop its fork bushes .

Mine was head bearings - the PO was a self confessed wheelie monster so that's probably got something to do with it

You should also check the front mudguard fittings, if they're loose it will rattle.

Are the brake hoses secure (particularly braided steel ones)? If not they may move and strike the mudguard/fairing as the forks compress.
