clutch bolt torque

Post by vtrjames »

hey all. this may have been said before, but i just went to tourque the 5 clutch bolts on the pressure plate and the book says 12nm....

no way will they take that torque. 8O 8O

anyone else found this? I have just put the bolts up tight without the wrench.

is there another torque setting that is correct for these bolts?

as tight as you can get with a 1/4 drive wrench.
anything bigger and youll snap them.
they dont have to be mega tight - just a drop of loctite and nip up.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

cheers. , i thought they wouldnt need to be too tight.

i was using the torque wrench earlier on them and got so far and thought whoo f|":k thats too tight and backed them off then just nipped them up.

Best not to use a torque wrench as your likely to snap them with the extra leverage :eek2 Just tighten up in a criss cross sequence a bit at a time until you feel them tight enough. Just be wary that they can snap quite easily, it's all about feel really and knowing when to stop.
