pillion problems

So took the storm for a blast to stratford this afternoon with my wife on the back for the first time and lets say she isn't impressed she says every bump jolted her so much it was like being beaten up anyone else have the same problem and any suggestions or im going to have to sell her and buy another gsx750f

The easy & obvious suggestion is ...don't take her out on it...but that would be cruel.

You need to up rate the shock or get the standard one re worked for the extra weight. as standard they are quite stiff.

Hagon shocks are probably the cheapest option to buy new. Find a local suspension specialist & talk to them.
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

Gives you a perfect excuse to get an Ohlins rear shock

Standard shock is quite hard - have you tried adjusting the preload with a C spanner.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Surely, the shock is too hard for one but with pillion it would become a bit more appropriate?

I used to trial landrovers and a series LR was a nightmare till you put a few 100 kg's of patio slabs in the boot, then it became a plush ride!

I'm 17stone kitted up and the standard shock is fine for me .
So unless you both weigh 4stone kitted up less than me its bit the shock spring rate

Maybe the rebound is too soft. I juts tweaked mine today and what a difference. Mine was too high. Have look on the right hand side of the shock at the base. :thumbup:

standard is just a naff shock (unless on a perfectly smooth road), they feel too hard and there's not enough rebound adjustment available, by that I mean it's not fine enough, when I had mine on I put a cable tie around the piston rod (fiddly job that) and it showed the shock was using all it's travel. So it feels hard but bottoms out must mean not enough low speed compression damping, and the way it feels hard over bumps suggests too much high speed comp damping. best thing to do is buy another shock, anything must be better and worth the spend. I've got a Penske on mine.

If you have to sell her and get a Suzuki, that means you will have 2 bikes :crazy:

Just sell her and use the storm...........simples :roll:

he'll re-trim and re-shape your seat adding better quality softer foam, it makes the seat so much more comfortable, plus you can choose the materials/colours.
raise or lower the seat height. all for approx £90 and that includes him posting the seat back to you.... :thumbup:

I think the main problem is the rear shock, damping and springing, and an aftermarket shock will transform the bike.

I run a Nitron Street shock on mine but also added the remote preload adjuster to allow for prelaod changes to cope with the added weight of the pillion. so when I am 2 up I add about 3mm extra prelaod and 4 clicks of extra damping [Comp and Rebound are on a single clicker on the budget shock] and its is great..........and takes 30 seconds to make the changes.

also worth considering a modified seat with gel or better padding and a non slip covering, and a good grab rail.
