What I forgot to do?????

Post by grumpyfrog »

Stupid, stupid boy!!
So, wheels were off last week to get reshod and the bike was all jacked up.
Got home today and bugger work: those are going back on.
Piece of piss.....mmmm
All back together, checked over, wheels aligned, chain cleaned and set. SORTED.
Lovely and dry up here all day, so jumps on the bike to get some scrubbing in done, lovely bit of sweeping road for 12 mile, turn around heading back, grab a bit of front break heading into a left hander and jjjjuuuddddeeeerrrr judder but clench..:Jaw Drop:

pulls over to pray that the wheel is not loose, only to discover LH break caliper is dangling on one bolt and that's ready to pop out.
STUPID STUPID idiot.....
tightened everything off and got home using the rear only as last resort....
So, can anyone tell me the part number for the bolts, I'm thinking to get them of David Silvers OE parts as kinda critical part of keeping me alive?
Cannot believe what a plonker i've been
Don't hassle me
I'll get there at some time

Lucky boy! But you are not alone!
A few years ago i got home after a fast ride to find the front brake lever pivot pin almost fully out! I work up having nightmares for a few nights

:eek2 we have all done it, forgoten to tighten a bolt here or there. I must admit I usually double check vital components like brakes or axle bolts though. It's something that got drilled into me many years ago in a garage when we used to use the airgun to put wheel nuts on. We would never do them up tight though and the last bit had to be double checked by hand.

Can see how it's done though when you focus on some things... I'm having nervous visions after the total rebuild of the bike and wondering if I've missed anything.. done a check of all the vitals as pointed out above but guaranteed something will fall off within 10 miles on the way to the MOT station.. just hoping it isn't major.
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

I went for a ride once not long after passing my test .
For miles I had a "I've forgotten something " feeling and ten miles later it clicked .........click ....... Forgot to put my helmet on doh .
Went home the quick way and got there without being stopped

I get like that sometimes and have to re-assure myself that everything is OK.

I'm going to take it easy for the first few rides but I just know it will make me think that any noise, wobble, oddity will be something I've forgotten to tighten or forgotten altogether!

Take it for a nice shake down run then check it over then take it out for a harder run and check it again then deliver it to me :-)

I took my Storm apart a few times and once set off and rode for a few miles without realising I had forgotten to put the bolts back in holding the tank on. Luckily it didn't move at all whilst riding. I think I put a post on here actually when I got back because I found the bolts on the floor. Someone replied saying they look like the tank bolts

Oh and once I rode a few miles with the rear wheel spindle only finger tight after forgetting to tighten it up....

Moral of the story, don't let me work on your bike
