not really..... you can get to it from the 4391.... it is worth it mate even if we have to double back 10 miles.
also, the route from welshpool to newtown is crap... especially on a weekend as its a bit too trafficky.
doing the b road route cuts all that out - superb roads
wait til you see the 4391! its awesome! not a fast road tho.... last weekend, we freewheeled all the way down and got up to 85mph lol!

the route would be the opposite of what i posted lol, going from bala toward ellesmere then following down toward craven arms which brings us out at newtown - conveniently right opposite a bp garage with a bog!
then its half a mile off crossgates....
i do that run regularly as its some of my favourite roads
btw - ignore the 'temporary road surface' signs on crossgates - they are just there to cover their butt as the centreline is a bit pitted in parts, but not enough to cause a problem.
